I tried Resolve and elbow grease, and it lightened it significantly, and the pattern helps to disguise it, but I can still tell it's there. Is there any known household cleaner or Heloise trick (OK, I refuse to try vinegar if that's the case!) that may remove it further?

Maybe try some "Goop" (that's what it's really called, and you can usually find it with hand cleaners). Or OxyClean.
