besides wearing black like what do they turn off all the lights cause tonight is balck out night in football

The other answers are right, but i don't think they answer what your question actually is.

I am betting that you are in high school, it's homecoming week and your school color is black. All they want is that everyone in the stands to wear black. It shows school spirit and makes the crowd look bigger then it is.

It means that the local area, of the team home stadium, is not allowed to see it on TV, thus increasing attendance and money.

it means all the tickets to the game didnt sell out so the game will not be shown on TV(blackout), it doesnt happen to much anymore.

the answer above mine is not completely right, in some case the game has to be a sell out for it to be shown on TV

It means the game is being played in your local area. In order to encourage you to buy tickets and see it in person, the local broadcasters are blocked from showing it to you on TV. People farther away can get it on their sets because they can't get to the game in person.

it means by contract they can't show the game on TV in a certain radius distance (50 miles?) from the stadium if it's not a sell-out
