Communists are claimed to have been "behind the Civil Rights Movement"
Behind "welfare"
Behind "Cindy Sheehan"
Behind "Universal Healthcare"
Why not balme something horrid on them?
In fact, The USSR in all its flaws, was a model for greater good for all people. Communism survived a civil war and attacks from three foreign fronts, defeated the Nazis, and battled a counter-revolution for years. It was not until Yeltsin that Capitalism took hold and strangled the People's will. It has a far more humane record than any Capitalist nation.

Annie - The difference is between people who want to have wealth transferred from those who work up to a small elite who own and run it all, and those people often toil thier whole lives for nothing, even thier pensions get cut. The elite share not a penny and mnay people in the wealthiest capitalist society simply die from starvation or medical neglect. Thats Capitalism.
or
Resources and wealth to be dispersed with human serivices in mind where all people get thier basic needs met and those who want to compete to get ahead can, but the State will provide basics for all. Thats Communism.

A more humane record? Are you serious? What about the Gulags? What about Stalin's pogroms, the KGB making people "disappear", and others being sent to forced labor camps in Siberia to die. What about the jailing and persecution of political adversaries, lack of resources and massive coverups?

Under Stalin at least 3 Million people were killed outright by political murder and death in concentration camps (gulags) and 4 -6 million died of starvation. Is that bad enough for you?
Capitalism did not take over "strangle the people's will". The Communist system collapsed because USSR couldn't feed it's people or provide basic goods and services.

Uh... If you work your a-- off and I sit on mine, Comunism would split your hard-earned good fortune between us.... Yippee! I don't have to do anything, and I still get fed, get a roof over my head, etc....
Under Comunism, most motivation to work hard gets so diluted by sharing it with the rest of the commune, that there ultimately isn't any... There is no reward for putting forth extra effort. There is no reward for new ideas....
How many new ideas did USSR come up with while in existance?... During the same time period, what new stuff did USA come up with?....
Competition creates better service/products. Under Comunism, there is no competition. Case in point- When was the last time you stood in line at the DMV? They have no competition, and aren't motivated to move faster, to be more polite, to streamline their opperation, etc.... so it takes you all day to get 1 little thing done there.
Sure- more humane... and euthenasia is more "humane" than chemo, too... no nausea, no hair loss, no strength loss...

You need a history book.
the USSR was not attacked on 3 fronts, and had it not been for Germany being strained on the western and southern fronts, they would have overrun Russia. Secondly, the "civil war" was started by the communists. Thirdly, more Soviets were killed by Stalin than by Germans. Finally, economic growth never happened under Communists, and only occured after Gorbachev. Ask any russian if they would prefer to return to the old system and the answer is no.

You scare me !!!!!!!!!Communism only workers well if you are happy with one adult worker waiting in line all day .Capitalism beats that all to hell with two workers required per family and no long lines for goods and services .We are twice as productive this way and make our masters even richer .
Why would any one want Communisms in a capitalist society where in order to survive you must collect from all working members for a time to climb out of poverty and then let your kids do the same .Or just stay poor .

I guess you never heard of the gulags in russia, the re-education camps, thousands of people just "vanishing". The peoples revolution, where if you wore eyeglasses you were killed (if you wore glasses, you could probably read, if you can read you were probably educated, if you were educated you were a threat to the regime). The killing fields of Cambodia.
If that is your model of a greater civilization, then you need to up your meds.
What scares me is that there are many who think like you do who are in the democratic party. Others realize this, and we work hard to ensure the democrats will always be the party that is NOT in charge.

I used to live in the USSR.
Its Government had no regard for human life.
If your child died in the army, you had to take it. No right to sue the Government.
You could NEVER criticize the Government in the media. When you told a political joke, you had to look over your shoulder, and that's even in the 80s, in so called warming times.
Some of what you said hold truth, but I live in the US now, and very happy.

Ask people who were imprisoned in soviet prisons what is very wrong with communism. Under communism, you cannot own your house or the land under it, you do not have freedom of speech, religion, travel, assembly, freedom of the press or TV and Radio, can't own a gun,
and many more freedoms that you take for granted.
