"Republic" is a system of government. "Democracy" is a system of choosing government.
The US espouses democracy as the only valid way of choosing a government because it is then easier for the one worlders to manipulate the politics of the country changing to a democratic form of voting and then unleashing "big business" to rape pillage and plunder at will with the backing of US military power.
If you look closely, you will find that the US is now more fascist than republican.

By democracy, it is probably meant that "people are the government" - they can vote, they have basic liberties, etc.
We are pushing it on other countries because they do not have a democracy (this is not the same thing as the Democratic Party in the United States). For example, China is still a Communist country and it has control over most of the economical growth in China.
I personally believe that people are free (in most cases) and should have as much say as to what happens in the government as possible.

Beats me. People seem to think invading other countries is a completely good idea if they don't have that great institution of a democracy. Maybe it's a better way to live, but that doesn't change the fact that it's none of our business how other people choose to live! A dictatorship is not an excuse for a war.

Democracy in this context simply means free elections by the people and equal representation rather than mob rule. This is why the Electoral College is so important here. This is why Al Gore was not able Constitutionally to steal the Presidency

No kidding! We can't even have a popular vote for president so how can anyone say we are a democracy?

Because "democracy" sounds better than "republic" to people that are unaware of the difference.
