Some of it is because the woman has recently lost a baby and is not being treated for PPD or PPP (post partum psychosis) and they are so desperate to have a baby that they will do anything. I lost baby girl last month at 21 weeks and I realized that I was depressed and called my OB ASAP and was put on Zoloft.

What would lead you to say this is "happening all over the place"? It's probably something that's happened since the dawn of time, but actual cases of it happening are very isolated. Just because it's happened recently doesn't mean it suddenly an epidemic! Clearly any woman who would do it is not healthy mentally or emotionally and likely is not only obsessed with the idea of having a baby, but for whatever reason cannot. It's not as though it's done by sane, rational women who have weighed the pros and cons, considered the moral consequences and then decided that it's the right thing to do.

Pretty scary isn't it? I woke up and watched the news this morning, I'm 34 wks pregnant, and the first 2 stories are
A) Someone cutting a baby out of a preg womans stomach and killing the woman
B) Someone breaking into a home and slicing the throat of a new moma nd stealing her newborn baby(the one where theyve found the baby and the kidnapper)
Geez, I don't know what's going on! Some people are just nuts. They become obsessed with wanting something so badly that they just freak out and do whatever it takes to get it!

I'm with you WTF? When I was pregnant with my youngest I happened to be in Skidmore MO when a woman was brutally killed and her child ripped from her womb. I can hardly remember being less terrified. Just this month in my own back yard ( st. louis, Mo), two women were attacked. One was killed for her unborn baby and the other had her throat slashed and her days old newborn ripped from her arms in her own home! ( Thankfully little Abby was located and returned to her parents a week later in good health) I can't comprehend the mindset of these people. Why the hurt others, what motivates such brutal acts? we may never know.

Good topic! All of us are drawn to tiny infants. It is such a strong attraction that people stop and talk to strangers just to get a glimpse of their baby! Weird. We talk to them and goo-goo at them. It is hard to take our eyes off them! It is in our soul to love and care for the young and helpless. I suppose that just like someone can become addicted to drugs or chocolate someone can be overly attracted and addicted to babies. It is crazy to us but to the person (usually a woman) it is a reality!

it saddens me to read stupid things like that happening on the news via internet..anything to do with children period. Like the women i read about today.. threw her 3 children into the san fransico bay.. her 2 oldest struggled with her and the little toddler laughing , thinking it was a game.. not realizing what his mother was about to do to him...
