Has anyone tried Robitussin, I just started taking it yesterday, just wondering if anyone thinks that it actually helps with ovulation or not.

I've read about it just about everywhere on the internet. Check it out. It's supposed to help if you're trying to conceive

It doesn't help with ovulation, it helps with thinning cervical secretion to make it easier for sperm to swim...nothing to do with ovulation at all. Make sure it's regular robi that you take, the others have other ingredients in them.

Hope that helps.

Robi has nothing at all to do with ovulation. Rather, it can help with the quality of cervical mucus (CM) which can make it easier to get pregnant.

To conceive, you need for your CM to be plentiful, watery, and slippery (like egg white, so it's called EWCM). CM will become EWCM around ovulation, and will be thick and sticky the rest of the month. Many women have trouble conceiving because of poor CM quality at the time of ovulation. Drinking a lot of water will help if you have poor CM.

Guaifenesin (the ingredient people are talking about when they mention Robitussin for fertility) is an expectorant, in other words it loosens mucus and phlegm so you can cough it up. Guaifenesin will improve CM quality for the same reason, it makes it thinner and runnier.

If you take Guaifenesin to improve CM, *don't* go gulping down a bunch of Robitussin. a) Of all the different varieties of Robi, there doesn't seem to be one that has Guaifenesin as the only active ingredient, b) Guaifenesin is not even in most kinds of Robi at all, and c) Some ingredients used in some varieties of Robi are associated with birth defects.

Not to mention it tastes horrible and is expensive.

Instead, buy plain Guaifenesin tablets which are now available over the counter.

Hope that helps,
Maureen

I'm on clomid as well, and I'm about to start the robitussin tomorrow. My dr said that it doesn't work quite as well as they thought in the past, but it doesn't hurt to try. Make sure it's PLAIN robitussin and not any other type with the letters after the name...like DM or something. I've always had a lot of Cervical mucus and unless its just a coincidence...the past couple days its been dry--so i'm thinking it may be the clomid. Yeah, it doesn't help ovulation, but helps secrete more CM that the clomid can tend to dry up. Email me if you'd like.

Robitussin supposedly helps increase your cervical mucus. Cervical mucus is what the sperm travels in to the egg. It is important to have good cervical mucus in order for you to get pregnant. The consistency you are looking for is like egg whites. Stretchy and clear. I recommend www.babycenter.com they have excellent bulletin boards with lots of support. It took me 3 years to conceive so I have heard/done it all. Best wishes you to you!
