Getting it hard? What did he mean by that? I think you and your son were done wrong. I would be upset about it. Sounds like our GPs these days. They dont know what anything is, thats why theyre practioners, they practice on ppl everyday.

Im glad you took him to the hospital, and Im glad they caught it. I hope he gets to feeling better real soon.

In your case the doctor probably didn't want to try and get him to sit still or be quiet. Doctors now days get in a huge hurry to see as many patients as they can so they can make more money. However, they are paid not only for their services but for a minimum of 15 minutes for their time in the office with you. If the doctor doesn't do something right say something right then. Yes, the doctor was wrong in not properly examining your son. However, you were also in the wrong for not asking the doctor to do an exam and not just diagnose. This is your child and I know you want the best for him and you should demand it. If you think the doctor should do more say so right then. At every appointment my daughters pediatrician knows if she doesn't check the eyes, nose, mouth/throat, and ears, listen to the lungs, stomach and heart I will say something. She does this everytime. Even if it is just a routine check-up. She does it because if she doesn't I say something. It is beneficial to demand that because they caught my daughters asthma early. They caught her ear infection before she ever had any fever. You need to demand the services he is paid for. Make him pay attention and do a thourough check. If he refuses, change doctors. Did you know that american doctors are asked less questions by their patients than doctors in any other country? And they are probably some of the best paid as well!!!!

I agree. The doctor def should have been able to determine the difference between a head cold and pnemonia simply by listening to the lungs. I would also suggest finding another doctor.

Was this a pediatrician....of course he should have been able to tell by listening to the lungs!!!!! Get a new doctor, but before you do, get the book, "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz. She has a great guide on finding the best doctor for your needs and gives some great websites to look up the doctors credentials. I got it because I needed to choose a better health insurance for a lower cost and it really helped me. You can order to book on www.amazon.com and at your local Barnes and Noble...I bought it for about $15!

When my daughter was 4 yrs, a trio of physicians misdiagnosed her pneumonia for three weeks. A fourth physician (her allergist) promptly admitted her to the hospital for treatment and she was well within three days. Some physicians are better at diagnosis than others.

Yes your pediatrician should've caught it. By listening to his lungs and sending him for a chest x-ray that day he could've made the diagnosis and begun treatment sooner. I would find another doc for your son.

I understand your concern. The doctor could of looked a little further than he did. Talk to him about his oversight

Yes. There are a lot of doctors who should not be practicing.

I agree. Docs that don't spend enough time with their patients and overlook things like that aren't worth your time and money. And they piss me off to no end. :)

Ask for a refund---that should make him speechless.
You would for any other service that does not satisfy.
