My resons were purely selfish, I was 2 weeks overdue, my parents were getting married 3 days later and I REFUSED to go 'another week' to appease my doctor. WE had tried EVERYTHING short of hooking me up to a hoover and sucking the lil man out!
I basicaly asked my doc if there was anything she could do medicaly, I didn't want to go into labor in the middle of a wedding or worse have the baby the day after my dad and step mom went on thier honeymoon!
I'd suggest talking to your doctor about your fears over timing during your labor, keep in mind, each delivery, like each pregnancy is quite different. With this baby you may very well be lying around all weekend wondering WHEN can I push!? If your NP suggested it, then it is possible the DR will be open to the idea, obviously the NP works with the DR regularly and your not the first woman wo have these fears, it's quite possible that the DR does this regularly.
*note* If there have been any complications or is any reason to think there could be complications your doctor may not want to enduce.. or he may want to take the baby via c section.. never can tell.

I am in nearly the same boat as you are. I am 39 weeks and showing no signs of labor approaching. I also had my first child in 6 hours and afraid I wont make it to the hospital in time, and am also getting afraid that the baby will get too big if I wait, and I do want that precious epidural too. I had a dr. appt. last night and asked him how long he will let me go past my due date. He said if I dont go into labor this week before my next appt. He will check my cervix and see if it is inducable. He said if I am not dialating and he sends me to the hospital too soon it could mean a long labor and could end up in a c-section. He said if my cervix is not dialating he will send me for a ultrasound to see how big the baby is and go from there. Hopefully that helps.

The doctor would not allow that unless your or the baby are in danger then he would consider inducement. They induced my labor, my baby was a week early because there was no movement but they can hear a heart beat I ws in labor for 3 days and they had to give me an emergency C-section because my son had turned around and was elbow first.

yes i asked to be induced it was the best thing i did i couldn't take it anymore, it was the middle of summer and there was no room for the baby to go,and the doctors said it might be good for the baby. I'm not telling you what to do do not get an epidural some women love them some hate them, i didn't have one with any of my children it's your choice, just ask the doctor anything that's why he or she is there, i asked is the potossun hard on the baby? how long does it take to take affect? they will usually pick a day and ask if it's OK for you and your husband/boyfriend. it will be a great experience, nd at the end you get a great gift!!!!

It all depends on your doctor and your body really. I was induced w/ my first child at 39 weeks, after my doctor said that my body was ready for it. She brought up the idea herself. But when I had my 2nd child, and I mentioned an induction, the doctor I had at the time said that they wouldn't consider one unless I was 42 weeks or my husband was deploying (we are military) soon. So like I said, it all depends. I personally think that you will have enough time to get to the hospital. My labor w/my first was 7 hrs long, and I had my daughter is 3 hrs! I had an epi with both of them. Good luck to you and I hope that helped! ;)

I would actually think you still shoudl have enough time to get to hosptial if you live a decent distance. Plus, not to scare you, but induced labor is harder, longer and I had horrible headaches from the medication for weeks. This is second time around, you will know when labor starts, and go in if you have any questions that you might.

I was induced for my first one, and I am 4 months away from having this second one, and the doctor told me to come and see him when I am 36 weeks and we will discuss a date.

A doctor usually wont accept for an early induction unless there is a problem with you or the baby

yes, have on all but one of mine. they won't induce till 37 weeks but they will. Start complaining of pain two or three weeks before then. they strongly start considering after you've asked
