Yep. Check out www.hufa.org, the symptoms link. If you have more symptoms than just falling asleep too early, then try a diet for diabetics or hypoglycemics including a snack before heading home from work (presumably you are of working age). This should stabilize your blood sugar so you don't fall asleep right after dinner. Also, changing what you eat for dinner to lower your high glycemic carbohydrate intake, so your dinner does not lead you to sleep too early.

What time to do you get up in the morning? And depending on the type of work you do, could account for you falling asleep when you finally sit down to relax. You need 7-8 hours of sleep. If you get that, try going for a walk in the early evening....that will give you a little extra energy to stay awake and watch that favorite tv show. Stay away from caffeine in the evening....you want to sleep well when you go to bed. Drink ice water, very cold water......it will keep you alert. Take care.

Keep active. I find that swimming of an evening helps. I go for a swim at around 9, by the time I'm back it's 10.30 and I'm relaxed and feel great ready for a good nights sleep. Try having a power nap in the afternoon, if possible. If Ellen McArthur can surive on 10 or 20 miutes at a time I'm sure you can manage. If it's that much of a problem have you tried seeing a doctor? Some food intolorences can cause lethargy. Maybe you're anaemic? Try the exercise thing first and see how you feel. Make sure you're getting your 5 a day fruit and veg and maybe supplement with omega 3 to keep your brain active and in good health.

Eating carbs can make you sleepy, so if you fall asleep after dinner try to stick to protein and veg instead.

Drinking caffeine early in the day can make you more tired later on so perhaps cut down if you drink a lot in the daytime.

Doing some light exercise wakes you up for a while (but even more sleepy later on)

Keep the lights on while you're watching TV as darkness stimulates sleepy hormones....

erm, that's about all I can think of - works for me :)

I know this will sound kind of silly, but getting up later might help. I know personally, if I just have to stay awake I can make myself, I generally am lucky to get about 6 hours per night, so staying up is not something I force often. You either need to get more sleep or take naps during the day. The only other option is to force yoursefl to stay awake, which is really no fun.

You can force yourself to stay awake - but you can not reduce the effects on your body. You wind up with a sleep deficit.

You NEED at least 7 hours a night of sleep - if you don't get that, you increase your risk for obesity, diabetes, accidents or errors caused by fatigue.

yes but it exhausts you.
my husband has dementia and it was made much worse by one of his heart medicines giving him an over active thyroid.
for many months i only had one and a half hours sleep in every 24 hours and that was not even a continuous sleep. I survived by conserving energy and doing as little as possible but in the end a was getting angina and not dealing with important letters.
now they have sorted out his thyroid so i am getting a bit more sleep and find i don't need nearly as much as i did.
one bonus was i lost a stone in weight and was able to eat as much chocolate as i wanted.

As far as training is concerend, it must be possible.
We had 7 hours sleep a night, then got 2 kids.
Suddenly you are down to about 3-4 hours a night.
Body has to cope.

If you are falling asleep early, it is probably because your body needs the rest.

If you exercise shortly before the period you want to stay up, it should keep you awake.
