there is a lady at work who we constantly catch in little white lies.
maybe she does it so she want get fussed at?
but she used to not be this way. like today she said that no manager got anyone to help back her up(fast food) but really yes they did! she lied and said she had to ask a cook to come help her. no, the two managers asked the cook to help!! not her!
she tells fellow employees that she doesnt like taking a 30 minute clock out break, but then when talked to by our general manager, she says that she doesnt mind.
she used to be a real good friend of mine, but her little lies to me as well as others is bad.
ive confronted her every time. i just want her to act normal.
any thoughts?

People lie for various reasons. Some people tell one thing to one group of people and another to a different group because they want to fit in, or suck up as in the case of bosses. And I've know many people who do this and aren't even aware of it.

Take this example. "I think that person is having an affair." Now saw "That person is having an affair." 2 very different meanings but I know some people that drop words and make opinions sound like facts.

And then there are the people that know they're lying but they do it so much it becomes second nature and they may not realize it at the time. In general people are scared of revealing who they really are and that's why som many people lie.

I bet she is not the best communicator you know either, huh?

The instance you mentioned about getting the cook got me thinking of times I've heard poor communicators say things quickly, not think and use all the words they know, to express something that needed more expression than they gave. She probably was thinking it, and even MEANT "Someone had to get help for me; they didn't just step up to help me," but that would have taken a long time to say. She is not used to being allowed to speak her entire thoughts.

Correct her every time and she'll stop.

My brother, who is a middle aged man, has not spoken a word of truth since he learned to talk. When you confront him with his lies he always has an excuse why he "had" to lie, or it was somebody else's fault. He never accepts responsibility for his lies. This became apparent when he was a child, and my mom tried to take him to counseling, but he refused to go because everyone was against him. There is nothing you can do, they won't change.

Sometimes, someone's mind just works that way. That is how she thinks...and she lies so much that she has just gotten used to saying things that arent true. Making things up on a whim is easier than facing the truth or consequences. She just needs some time to realize what she is saying and how she is affecting everyone around her.

she has a self esteem problem. she feels that if she says small white lies it will mak her feel more impotant n others eyes. like taking credit for some one elses work or agreeing or disagreeing with the boss depending on who she is trying to impress. she is the type of person who looks for attention.
forgive her. she has been hurt somewhere in the past for her to b this way. be a friend and tell her that this is hurting everyone.

I had a friend like that. She lied over the stupidest things. I never figured it out. I just learned to accept her for who she was, hell we're not perfect! But there are people that lie so much that they actually believe their lies! Weird heh?

I think that after someone tells so many lies, they get used to it and can't tell the difference between truth and lies anymore.
