I am fair skin and I appear to be hispanic but I'm not, I'm mult-racial and my husband is a darker skin hispanic (FYI). Anyhow, we were at a restaurant a few weeks ago and overheard a caucasion male talking about "interracial dating and marriage" of course this conversation wasn't appropriate but we heard everything and it was really disturbing. He went on to say that races shouldn't mix for the sake of their kids and because the "colored" spouse will never "actually" be accepted and neither will the kids and this creates family problems. We have never experienced any type of discrimination against our relationship but I was bothered. My question is, how many people in the world feel this way? and what is your take on "interracial marriage and families"? HONESTLY!

MY take is that there is no such thing as interracial ANYTHING! Many who say things like that awful man did use The Bible as their means of excuse, it says each should stay with it's own kind, meaning, birds with birds, dogs, with dogs, cats, with cats, fish, with fish and HUMANS with HUMANS. Nowhere does it mention "Color"! Someday we will see a world without bigotry, maybe not in our lifetimes, but it will happen, and NOTHING could make me happier. I'm in what many see as an interracial marriage, I'm Scot-Irish, white as snow, and my husband of 27 happy years, is 3/4 Cherokee, and 1/4 Jewish, by birth not religion and we've encountered what you did many, many times. Ignore the ignorance of others and live your life filled with love for each other. God Bless.

Anyone ever notice that it's always white people who talk about how interracial couples and children will never be accepted, etc., and yet these very same white people will follow up these conversations with "but I'm not racist/prejudice or anything". Duh! First of all, if you and your spouse and kids are white, how are interracial or non-white couples and their children any of your damn business? Second of all, if the very existance of interracial couples and children bothers you enough to comment about them, then you are prejudice and you need to either just admit it or be quiet. People like this aren't "concerned" about the wellbeing of interracial kids. For whatever reason, they feel threatened by the visible proof of other races actually getting along and accepting each other. The guy you overheard in the restaurant was actually saying that HE would never accept the idea of racially mixed children, and was using the verbalization of his "concern" as an excuse.

People who think like that should go the way of the dinosaur. Who someone loves & has children with isn't anyone's business but their own. Some of the most beautiful people I've ever seen were mixed racial. ERRRRRGGGGGGGGGG! Bigots make me so mad! Ignorant, rude bigots are even worse.
FYI, I'm a middle aged caucasion woman.

To the majority of the population it makes no difference what race partners in a relationship are.
Unfortunately there are more idiots out there who have a problem with mixed relationships than are out and out racists.
There is nothing we can do about htis other than try to educate them better, and that won't work as the majority have it drummed into them at home.

it still bothers people to see interracial couples & families in the same way it still bothers people to see anyone they don't agree with. Politics, religion, finincial status, ect. The problem is we embrace freedom, even kill for it, we just can't seem to tolorate the open display of others expressing it. It all seems to be a bit last century!
