Yes! and some books are better left to the imagination - Lord of the Rings for example - nothing can beat reading it as an eleven year old and letting your imagination run riot - the characters NEVER look the same in the film - explains why i have never read Harry Potter - although I have seen the films

Yeah, I can say the love scene in BrokeBack Mountain was far more intense because it erally didn't show anything. I left the audience to imagine what happened and how far it went.
I think most of the audience pictuers some really raw, rough sex. It is what the movie called for in it's theme and was highly effective.

The only time that works is in horror/suspense films. If I wanted to use my imagination then I'd rather read a book.

I do personally if you mean things like horror and sexy stuff. I don't really need to see some actors bum flashing up and down to get the gist that two characters are having sex and I am always more scared by what you don't see in a horror film than gallons of blood and gore everywhere.

Yes.
The imagination is much more effective. Plus, it stimulates the mind instead of just staring at mindless dribble.
Just ask Victoria's Secret -- they make a killing on this premise.

yes. i don't like the spoon feeding and spelling out of everything that is going on in hollywood film. i like to figure some things out or maybe have some aspects that aren't neatly packaged and accounted for.
for horror movies, sometimes it is scarier to imagine what something might look like.

I don't like the feature section of the DVD where every special effect is analyzed and explained in detail. I think it takes the wonder out of the movies.
This is why magicians never reveal their secrets.

No way. If I wanted to use my imagination, I'd be reading a book. If I'm watching a movie, I wanna see everything they got!

if it's good film ( not just actors) it's always place for an imagination. With bad films imagination is not enough

Things happening just out of camera shot are more powerful, because we paint in the rest of the picture ourselves. Psycho and Hitchhiker both avoided explicit depiction of murder scenes and were more effective because of it.
