A teenage mother was arrested Thursday after police said her 3-month-old daughter fell into a bucket of vomit and died.
Savarin Dejesus, 18, left the child with a baby sitter at an East Harlem group home where she was living and then headed out for a night of partying Sept. 15, police said. When she returned, she went to her room, set a bucket next to her bed in case she became sick and fell asleep with the baby, Niah Ford, in her arms, they said.
Dejesus vomited in the bucket that night, and later Niah tumbled out of her arms and landed in the bucket, police said. Dejesus didn't discover what had happened to Niah until the next afternoon, they said.
Niah was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It appeared she had drowned in the bucket, which was filled with water and vomit, police said.
Dejesus was charged with criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a child

if a mother of a child who is that young & helpless feels the need to go out & get shitfaced like that then she is most definately NOT ready to have the responsibility to take care of a child... her baby shoudl have been taken away by CPS the second she came back home into that shelter stumbling.

FYI--i will be a mother shortly (im 10 weeks prego, with 1st baby) & hearing something like this is 100% nasuating... Yes it might be difficult to be a mother, but what makes it ok to go out & get so drunk that u cant even wake up until the afternoon, with your poor little girl in a bucket of your own puke?? No reason in the world can justify that!!

WOW!!
For one, i never let my daughter (she's 16 months old now) sleep anywhere but in her crib. It's the safest place for her, period.
That poor baby. Drowning has to be one of the worst ways to die.

Yea thats fuced up, but just because your a parent dosnt mean you cant go out and party, even get shitfaced. BUT you must take care of responsibilties first and have a sitter that you trust (i.e. wont be getting shitfaced) to watch your child for the night, most of the time people know before they leave the house they are about to go get wasted so theres no excuse for not having a sitter all night, I have another question. Why didnt they charge the sitter with neglagence too, if the mother was that wasted she shouldnt have let her leave with the baby. If the mother had to drive to get home thats twice as worse. Ok lets say she couldnt keep the mother from taking the babie, at LEAST offer to go home and make sure the baby as well as the mother get through the night alright. That really had to suck for the mother to wake up with a hangover to some sht like that, shes gonna have nightmares forever.

I don't understand how a women can carry a child in her for 9 months and go though the pain of labor, to in up doing what she did. Its OK for a parent to go out and have a great time but make sure your child is being taking care of by someone that you know and trust and if you know you are going to be drinking, ask that someone to watch your child over night so you can sleep and be fresh for the next day, for your baby. It sounds like to me the mother was not prepared to be a mother and this is sad. I know its a lot of mothers out there and ones who want to be a mother and can't are mad. Only thing we can do is pray for the young mothers of today and hope the get the training they need to be better mothers.

The Good news is this baby is in a way better place now. Why did the propritors of this shelter allow this to happen. Did they not see her come in totaly wasted. She should be charged with negligent homicide to bad stupidity isn't a crime. I pity her because she doesn't even understand how this could happen I am sure. No matter what her sentence is I hope that a life sentence of guilt does finally sink in for her. Anger and sadness are overwhelming in me right now. I am so glad I am not close to this case I would loose it on her. There is never a good excuse for harming a child.

it disgusts me I think she should be held totally responsible fo everything her dumb *** should not have been out drinking when she has a 3 month old if she was drinking than she should have had an overnight babysitter or someone sober to take care of the baby. I have never drank with my kids home thats why I only drink like 1 a year and I have a spouse at home who could watch them but I don't think it is right to drink around them I have an alchoholic father so I know what it is like. I don't think it has to anything with her being young either I hate it when people say its because she is young THAT IS NOT TRUE!!!!!!!1 I started having kids at 16 and I am doing great I am very responsible everyone says I am to over protective . so I don't think it was her age it was her stupidity and hopefully she will have to pay for that for the rest of her life!!

I am ordinarily very much in favor of free will, but this case is a good example of a reason to favor involuntary sterilization. Someone should keep this woman from having more children. As was the case in Houston, Texas a while back. Still wonder why no one ever said much bad about Rusty, even though HE was half the problem - didn't have to have unprotected sex with a woman he knew had problems!

I hadn't heard this story yet, but it makes me sick. The mother should have never gone out in the first place. What is wrong with people?! Well, I guess the only thing left to say is that this child is better off in Heaven than with a "mother" who would rather be out partying than taking care of her baby. I hope she fries!!!

Oh my gosh! That is sad. First off, when you choose to have a baby, you need to not go out and party. You need to stay home and take care of that child or leave the baby with some one that is will to take that child over night. Poor baby. What a way to die!

Honestly, as a women who has been trying to conceive for almost 4 yrs now, it makes me so angry when I hear these kinda of stories. Why is it that women who want babies, have difficulties and women who don't want or don't even deserve a child get one with no problems. It's not fair! I am sick and tired of hearing these disgusting stories of little girls (cause thats what they are) negleting their babies. Where are the parents? Doesn't anyone teach morals and responsiblity anymore?

That is really ****** up. I think parents should calm down and settle after having a baby. What if that baby would have woken up in the night sick herself? Passed out mommy would have never woken up. Not only that but with all we now know about sids and people are still sleeping with there kids. (not being prejudice, but its not good to do)

That is so sad. Really makes you wonder about who can have children. Mistakes do happen--but this is just not acceptable. Who would get drunk when they were a parent? Personally I don't drink but if I did I would make sure some one could watch my child until I sobered up.
