If you are on a mac, and you want system preferences, click the apple logo in the upper left of the screen. Select 'System Preferences' from the dropdown list.

If you are in any other application on a mac, you can press the apple key and the ',' key at the same time, and your preferences will open.

If you are on windows or any other OS, I would tell you the answer, but only if I had more time on my hands than is healthy.

You are referring to Preferences on the Yahoo Messenger, I presume?

Open your messenger. The main one--the one with the list of all of your friends on it.

Across the top of it, you will see 4 choices: Messenger, Contacts, Action and Help.

Click Messenger.

After you do that, a grey box with a lot of choices will pop up.

Move your mouse cursor about 2/3 of the way down until it is pointing at the word "Preferences".

Click on that.

Good luck!
