Vyas is a seat like the dean or principal of an institution. The person seated therein who dictaded the vedas was Badarayana and also went on to be known as vedavyas.

Both party is not correct. Only one individual really knows who he was, it is author himself.Any other just guessing...But does it make any difference who wrote Brahma Sutras, if Brahma Sutras represents God's wisdom for us to learn?
