As with any operation, possible infection, possible heart and/or lung complications from the anesthesia, there will be some pain, swelling, and possibly bruising. Normal activities can be resumed in about 10 days, or whenever the child feels up to them. Strenuous activities such as sports ought to be left out until 4 to 6 weeks from the operation.

As with any child, try to keep him from hurting himself, but don't worry overmuch about him playing. If something hurts, he'll probably let you know, and you can know not to let him try that for a few days.
