When I was growing up it was safe to go trick or treating. Even though I am just 24 now. We really did not hear of people trying to poison the candy or anything like that in my neighborhood. I just want to know what other people think about it!

My daughter takes my grandkids but she wont let them eat anything until it is checked. The local hospital does xrays of the candy free. It makes me angry that little kids cant have a night of fun without some sicko trying to hurt them.
If anything looks suspicious they throw it out.

I'm thirty, I never went trick-or-treating in the daylight. My sister, who's 25, had never gone after dark. They used to tell us in school to have our parents check our candy. We knew the people in our neighborhood so my dad used this as an excuse for first dibs on some of the good stuff...he never had to "test" a popcorn ball or some homemade concoction, it was always the reese cups that looked "suspisious" to him.
I don't know if the world is more dangerous today or not. Maybe it is. Maybe the direction the news media has gone, or the fact that our generation was so infused with the urban myth, has made us a little uptight. Although I'd bet if I had children of my own, I'd think a little differently.

In NC, Halloween is quite safe. Children need to have an adult or guardian with them and the candy should be checked (wrappers in tact) before children eat it. At one time, there were incidences of razor blades in apples and poisoned candy. I haven't heard of any such incidences in a while. My husband and I have over 150 trick or treaters. We make a big deal of it and decorate the house and dress up. We have the best house in the neighborhood (so I've been told). We have music, a fog machine, lots of fake ghouls and hand out great candy. We love it and so do the kids!!

I think it's as safe or unsafe as it's always been. I'm 28 and heard about people poisoning candy when I was a kid. And sticking pins in candy. Back then you could take your candy to the police station to be x-rayed. There have always been crazy people around. Fortunately most people are nice and you can still have a safe Halloween in this day and age.

No, I don't think it is safe. Parents have to be more concerned about their child being kidnapped or something than poisoning the candy now a days. When I was kid, my mother took me and my sister all the city, into neighborhoods we didn't know, but not now. You better take your child to either a church "Trunk or Treat" or houses of people you know. Halloween used to be fun holiday to get dressed up and get free candy, but not anymore. Crazy people spoil the fun for everybody.

Trick-or-treating hasn't been safe for kids in a LONG time... (I say long time and I mean 10-15 years) When I was little is when one of the neighbors decided to put razor blades in apples and injected candy with different things.

It is a shame that the kids today cant enjoy the things we did when we were growing up. just stay in your neighborhood know the people around you and enjoy it the best way you can. HAPPY TRICK OR TREATING.

Yeah I agree it's not safe for children anymore. I would not let my child eat any candy they got or go alone or with a group. People are getting horrible.

i'm 22 and i heard it all the time. my mother always checked my candy. there was only like 2 instances where a child was hurt by candy, and it was by a family member. people are very paranoid. i dont think there are a higher percentage of "crazies" out there. people got stabbed and shot and murdered 20 years ago, 30, 50 years ago. i think you will find that most people are good at heart.

yes parents go with kids check the candy. And you know what i thought of a couple weeks ago HOW MANY MALESTORS are in your NEIGHBORHOOD. sexual offenders i should say more and more kids are disappearing. last year my youngest was one years old someone gave her a soft kiddie ball that is a good idea these kids only need a LITTLE bit of candy (sugar) anyway their getting to be so obese. but i guess in that soft ball you need to check it squeze it anyway. that's why i like to take my kids to mostly family
