We just bought a new computer, and it comes with only one hard drive bay (filled by the 80gb existing HD) I cannot replace the HD as it has XP on it and the new one does not. Our old computer came with an expansion slot for two 3.5" HDDs. the bay comes out so that it is essentially just the two bays. How can I put this in our new computer so that it will hold our extra 160GB HD?? (Have all screws for it and everything)

You should look at the computers before buying them. But take it to a computer shop, and the can another bay, so you can add another hard drive!!

1 TAKE THE CASE APART / BOTH SIDES AND THE FRONT
2 NOW YOU CAN SEE WHERE YOU HAVE ROOM
3 THE FRONT OF THE CASE HAS KNOCK OUTS
4 FIND AN EMPTY SLOT WHERE THE DRIVE WILL FIT AND ALSO REACH THE IDE AND POWER WIRES
5 DO SOME RESEARCH ON HOW TO JUMPER SLAVE AND MASTER
6 MAKE SURE ITS WORKING
7 PUT IN A COUPLE SCREWS TO HOLD THE DRIVE IN PLACE
8 RE INSTALL THE FRONT AND SIDES

Rare that PC towers don't have room for another hard drive. You do not neccessarily have to have one, but you will have to screw it into the metal to get a ground connection at least. You may have to create a bay....

the first hard drive is the master drive...the second one is the slave...if u look on the harddrives (where they plug in) it tells u how to fix the pin for master or slave....then if u want to install windows on the second drive u can make disk from the new one(pc) which will allow u to install windows on the drive u want to...go to start, programs, look for (for instance--hp, dell, or whatever )then easy setup...when u click on this it will prompt u to burn the back up disk for the new pc...dont mess up or u wont get another chance to burn them ... u can only do once....once u have them burned u can put the hard drive u want to be the main one as master the other one as slave...then u need to go to bios and change start up options to cd rom first so it will read ur disk first ....to install windows on ur hard drive that u r wanting ...just change back to hard drive (c drive) to start up first... after u r finished....u should always format any drives u plan on installing especially if there used....to insure no virus's etc....sounds hard but after a few times(yes u will need to format periodically) u will be a pro at it...good luck...

P.S. always format on fat32....

What kind of "new one" did you buy? Every puter I ever bought came with latest windows in it.
