Browse a book on coin values at your local library. Just don't expect to get top price though. These coins are quite common.

You need to go to a coin dealer. He can grade your coins and give you a value. There are only a few dates in the buffalo ( actually Indian head) nickel series that are real rare. You must also be able to read the dates. There is also two types of 1913 dated coins, the ones with the bison on the mound is type 1 and the one with the bison on the plain is type 2 .The mint marks are on the reverse under the words five cents. Look in the phone book under coins. There should be a few where you are.

Buffalo head nickels are actually very common. Around here, you can usually pick one up for less than 4 or 5 dollars, unless they are in perfectly mint condition. There are rare ones however that can be quite valuable. Your best bet is to have an appraisal done, but that can be pricey...especially if the value of your collection doesn't pan out. Good luck!

Best thing to do is take them to more than one RELIABLE coin shops and have an experienced dealer appraise them for you. Compare the values given. There are so many grades they assign to coins as far as condition, doing it yourself could be difficult. One tends to give a grade to a coin higher than it is.

Try to be sure the person grading your coins is a certified appraiser or dealer.

Good luck.
