Hi i am 18 going to be 19 and just got married it was a spur of the moment thing i went with my bf of 2 months to vegas with some friends and at some point one of his friends said we were like a married couple and my bf just turned around and said why not get married right now and then we kind of did. This was a joke that was taken way too far. If you get married by Elvis in Vegas at a white chapel is it still legal when you get back to NJ?This happened a month ago and we are still really in love but after this we pretended like nothing happened. My parents cant stand him because he is 21 and italian not spanish like they wanted and his parents dont really like me because i am spanish and they want him to date Italian girls. We told them we were engaged after the trip to Vegas.

The marriage is a valid and legal contract though you could have it annulled as if it never happened provided it has been less than 90 days since the date of the marriage certificate.

THIS is the reason why you should NOT drink, go to Vegas with irresponsible idiots, and just on the spur of the moment hit a Wedding Chapel!
YES -- you ARE married -- and YES, it IS a problem if both of you are uncomfortable -- and BOTH of you need to CONFESS the TRUTH to EACH set of parents and LET it ALL COME OUT -- because even with your College -- your Financial Aid is affected (YOU are NO LONGER a Dependent Child - you are a MARRIED ADULT -- and responsible for ALL your OWN Health Care/Insurance, Bills, Hospitalization, etc etc etc!)!

If you got married in one of the established chapels in Vegas, they no doubt required you to have a marriage license from Clark County court house. If the answer is yes, then the answer is yes you are married and it is legal in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands...

If you have a marriage license that was signed by witnesses then that's proof even if you don't live by it. The good news is that you can get the marriage annulled. Or live with it as it stands and get married later with a big wedding. But the friends there might tell your other friends or parents, so it's better to come clean.

Get an annulment...if you two do love in each other then you can get married in the long run, the proper way, but for now, even you think it was all a joke. You did get married, so the only thing that can undo "it" is an annulment.
Forget about your and his parents, if you two are in love give the relationship the chance it deserves.

I'm sure it's legal but if you want to make sure check with the county clerks office. I believe they even have a web site that you can check on (do a search to see) - If you are legally married I would recommend an annulment if possible (check with an attorney) or a uncontested divorce (again see an attorney) This mistake is going to cost you but fix it now and learn from your mistakes.

Was it registered with the County Clerk? Did you sign anything? If not, no it's not real. If yes, ya better be seeing a lawyer to get an annulment.

Of course it's legal. You are now Mrs. Italian Dude. You should find a lawyer and have it annulled.

Call the county clerks office in Vegas and see if they have anything file with your and his name for that day. If it's legal it had to have been filed at the county clerks office.

Check with a lawyer in your area, but if you bought and signed a Nevada marriage license it would still be legal no matter what state you are in.
