I had mine out ag 18 and it was bad. My tonsils were inbeded in my throat and were about four inches long. Adults don't bounce back like little kids do. I had the worst sore throat for about five days. Then I got better and no more tonsilitis every two weeks. You will get pain meds to take don't be afraid to take them. When I had mine done they seared or burnt the area in the throat to prevent bleeding and of course this hurt after. Be brave you will make it. I found whining made my boyfriend at the time feel so bad that I got lots of nice gifts. Cool drinks and icecream helped but don't drink real hot drinks as this causes more pain. Luke warm chicken soup felt good. The bad thing is you don't have a cast or bandage so on the outside you look great so people don't know by looking at you that you are hurting. Ice packs to the neck helped. You will do fine.

I had mine out at 16- not an adult but I wasn't little. The first 3 days after were HORRIBLE. My tonsils were really bad though. The doctors said usually they just kind of lift up the tonsils and cut and put in a couple of stitches, mine were so badly scar tissued in my throat that they had to cut all the way around the inside of my throat and stitch it all up. I had tonsillitis and abscessed tonsils so many times before the finally agreed to do it. I couldn't eat for days and I could barely drink anything for the first three. It hurt soooo bad. I got dehydrated and then I got the dry heaves from no food and little fluid. After about the 6th day I was much better and I have hardly been sick at all since I had them out. I am 29 now. I wish they had taken them sooner. However, once they are gone you will feel so much better. I am sure your will go much smoother and the long term benefits are so worth it.
