I think baseball should be ashamed of itself. I think the bigger question is why is everyone doing Barry Bond's jail time for him??? Baseball has carefully kept Bond's exempt for all this only because of the home run race. Baseball figures to make a fortune off of Bonds going after Aaron's record. They don't want to pull the cheater into the picture right now because of ticket sales and commercial revenue. Greg Anderson is in jail right now because he won't talk about Bond's steroid usage. The reporters should get medals for their investigative reporting. In the end no one will look at Bonds as anything more than a cheater.

I feel upset, about the whole ordeal. But I do admire them a lot for standing up for what they believe. And at the same time protecting the source of information, what is Freedom of Speech for anyways? If when it comes down to it..You may end up in prison to defend it.

Technically what they're doing is they're covering up a crime. They put leaked grand jury testimony in their book, which is a crime for whomever leaked it. By not revealing the source, they are in a sense abetting the crime.
As such, their sentence is correct. Depends if they want to be someone's prison b***h for someone else's crime.

What? Reporters are immune from serving any jail time? If they broke a law then they SHOULD go to jail.

its really unfair from what i understand i could be wrong is that they were jailed for not leaking their sources and as a journalism major i believe in that 1000000% if these reporters was in ny they would not have receive time because their is a law protecting us :

About time! Now to sentence the rest of the reporters who plagarize, write false statements, misrepresent the facts in any situation, go out of their way to fabricate stories, etc etc etc.

serves them right, grand jury testimony is secret and it is a big part of our judicial system (as flawed as it may be) it is still the best in the world and it is not fair for some people to break that trust..... I think 18 months is not long enough.......

Reporters should have the right to protect their sources, period.
This isn't about covering for anybody who may or may not have taken steroids. It's about protecting one of the basic rights of a reporter.

I'm not familiar with the case you're talking about but I do know its high time the press had it explained to them that 'freedom of the press' doesn't mean that they're above the law like they think they are now.

I think it is stupid. However, this whole steriod thing is stupid. Do what Giambi did, admit to it and everyone will forgive you.
Too Bad people won't forgive Pete Rose and he has admitted to betting on baseball, not as bad as taking steriods to get an edge over your competition.
