By definition, isn't it better to be "liberal"?

Let's see...
Liberals are mostly open-minded, progressive, support many different groups of people, love freedom, generally nice people, and very tolerant people.

Conservatives are mostly closed-minded people, support very few minorities, love freedom too, generally can be nice but not often as nice as the average liberal, hates change, and not so tolerant of people who do things the "other way".

THIS IS WHY I AM PROUD TO BE A LIBERAL!

I possess all of those qualities as liberals. I love this country, and promote change for the best. Why can't we all be this way?

Ok guys...saying that Liberals are closed-minded because they only accept certain ideologies is just stupid. They have to support one thing or the other. What do you want them to do, change their mind all the time? Besides, liberals in the past (before Bush) were more tolerant of what the govt is doing...because now it is just utter chaos.

I'm a Liberal (progressive) individual myself, and i gotta tell ya.. your question is not a question, but a statement! You know that there are just some ignorant people in this world that dislike (I think mostly fear) anyone who is not the exact same way as they are. These regressive individuals have been around since the dawn of time and, unfortunately, aren't going to disappear any time soon. Have fun living as an open-minded, forward-thinking individual and let the other side be. The truth will prevail, always does.

Lets see. No. 1st off Liberals typically minds are so open there brains fall out, the Democratic Party USES different groups for political purposes, I can't say there very nice people when people like Chavez or the Iranian leader that I'm not going to attempt to spell goes to the UN and spouts the same crap that the Dem party has been spouting for half a decade. And Liberal "tolerance" has gotten the world in a whole lotta crap, aka 1930s Chamberlin with the Nazis and 1990s Bill Clinton with the Islam-o-religious-nuts.

Conservatives still have brains, treat everyone the same and most don't use people, LOVE freedom, theres alot of us who are nice, change isnt always for the best, and yes most Conservatives do tolerate--to a point everyone.

But isn't being liberal also being one sided? It makes sense for those with an ideology to be closed minded. If they were open minded, they wouldn't have a certain ideology. Liberals claim that they have more tolerance towards varying lifestyles, sexualities, races and religions. But that's just not true. I mean take for example gay marriages. Which I'm in complete favor of. Liberals prance around asking people to be, in the very least, tolerant of the homosexual lifestyle.

Yet how do they go about achieving this? They demean and show immense intolerance towards those who oppose their notion that its 'ok to be gay.' They show absolutely no tolerance towards Churches and organizations of religion. They demean Christians, and portray their views as outright wrong, ignorant, stupid and altogether baseless. That's not being open-minded.

They inform the world that people of religion are amongst the most stupid and unintelligent people. But at the same time they are showing immense intolerance towards people holding views contrary of their own, they're asking for tolerance... They can't tolerate a different, religious lifestyle, yet they're asking people to tolerate a different, homosexual lifestyle. This doesn't exactly bring about the most convincing argument. Some of you may say that Liberals don't want to accept people who are closed-minded, but that makes those Liberals close-minded.

Liberals also claim to have more acceptance towards new ideas and change in general. Yet, again, this isn't the case. Take social security.

Liberals oppose any change towards that system. How about revamping the tax system and creating a federal sales tax? Liberals oppose that new idea, and that piece of change. How about changing Roe v. Wade and illegalizing abortion?? Liberals oppose that change also. Reform the UN, make it a new, different organization? Nope, liberals can't stomach that either. How about creating a new, innovative global economic system; globalize and internationalize trade and economics? Nope, liberals won't accept that either, no matter how innovative and creative it may be.

Liberals are only accepting to new ideas on a selective basis. Just as are conservatives. Niether is more accepting of innovation and change than the other. Both Liberals and Conservatives are closed minded against the other, that's why there are liberals and conservatives.

In a perfect utopian society, maybe.Unfortunatly we live in the real world where people take advantage of others charities and there is too much selfesshness. Therefore it is better to be more strict with what we give away to other so it won't get out of hand. It is like what happens if you spoil your child. The child will never learn to think for ar take care of themselves. The child will always be looking for other to help them and tp blame others for when things don't go their way.

WOW! A TOLERANT Liberal?? REALLY? Liberals are among the LEAST tolerant groups in America today.

Liberals characterizes the majority of Americans as reactionaries and/or extremists because they believe in: the right to bear arms, the right to life of the unborn, lower taxes, limited Govt., traditional marriage, voluntary prayer, believe in God, individual retirement, strategic missile defense and school choice. Few liberals will debate the issues, and as "tolerant" and "open-minded" as they proclaim to be, they are ONLY tolerant of their OWN ideology and their OWN partisan ideologues. They are only TOLERANT of those who subscribe to secular world views such as Darwinism, Global warming, Bush Bashing, gay marriage, multiculturalism and the right to kill the unborn.

Tolerance USED to mean intellectual forbearance, ESPECIALLY concerning the opinions of others. I've NOT ever seen this in any Liberals I've met. Any form of disagreement is met with INTOLERANCE, name calling and destruction of personal property. If MY belief is that homosexuality is immoral and sinful, I am called a homophobes, a bigot and use "hate speech". When I sport GW stickers on my car, I am yelled at and my car gets vandalized. Liberal "tolerance' and celebration of diversity has come to mean a general acceptance of all behaviours with the implication that truth and morals are NOT relative.

It actually is better to be a Conservative. Conservatives
do entertain change for the better and at the same time try
to preserve all the great traditions of our past. Some of the
modern ways should be barred such as abortion, name
calling, flag burning, removing God from the Pledge, and
removing Christmas out of the Holiday season - all of which
Liberals vote for. Conservatives have a view of hope and
stability for all who desire it...Liberals want to wave the white
flag (unliked our ancestors who fought hard for freedom). For
your information, there have been 80,000 new soldier recruits
which is the highest in nine years and I would have to guess
most of those who sign up to protect our country are
"conservatives". Vote Republican.

I however disagree.

Liberals are just as close minded. If you were not, you really wouldn't care if I am conservative or not.

There is just as much, if not more hate speech from liberals as there is from conservatives.

Liberals are the antithesis to progress.... look at history.

Liberals do not generally support minorities... they exploit them, again, look at history.

Liberals are the example of intolerance.... look at your question, at it's very heart it displays your intolerance of conservatives. "Why can't we all be this way"....
