In Washington's farewell address, he warned about foreign entanglements with an eloquent speech, written in plain but brilliant terms. Please read it carefully and see if you can explain away the difference between our current mideast policy and the position that The Father Of Our Country took:

Nice try, kwingfan13, but it won't fly.

Washington's words are timeless, as agreed by great minds throughout history; in particular conservatives, which used to have some say in the Republican party. To have any credibility at all, you'll have to do better than that!

dlil:

IIf you are not going to answer the question, ask your own, so you can post your rant. This is a legitimate challenge for a thinking person. If you are not up to it today, simply admit it and move on.

added:

I believe the question asked you to square our current policies with Washington's speech. Of course it cannot be done, so why not concede that, and then make your point? Your opinion is always respected, but you avoided the task at hand. Find a lesser opponent if you want your obvious tactic ignored.

Beautiful speech. Thank you for sharing it . I was wondering if it was possible to have a government here again that felt that way. Honesty, honor, and dignity seem like a thing of the past. We have built ourselve up in a way that will come back down- just like the Roman Empire.

Yes, this is a well known and well respected document. However, we are living in a completely different time now. Washington did not know Hitler, or Hussein...or any of the other countless brutal dictators this world has seen. We have been through 2 world wars, a cold war, arms races, etc...gone from post cold war world to post 9-11 world....
It's comparing apples and oranges, really.

While I won't follow your link, I've actually read a book of his speeches and agree that we should stay out of world affairs completely.
Including but not limited to:

Africa/Aids crisis

The UN and the hundreds of billions we give them every year.

When there is a natural disaster overseas (Tsunami, etc.) how much money did foreign countries donate to those hurt by Katrina?

Sealing the border between the US & Mexico; making legal immigration as difficult as possible

Not allowing China or Soros (and all wealthy foreigners) to make polictical donations to the Democrat party (ok, the Republican party, too)

Something you're overlooking OUR CURRENT POLICIES OVERSEAS WERE FORMED BY:

Roosevelt (Democrat) wanted to get into WWII - but America resisted all his attempts to get involved overseas until Japan bombed us.

The Truman Doctrine (Harry was a Democrat also) which states America will Militarily and Financially come to the aid of any country that could fall to communism or dictators.

And Kennedy's (you do know he's a Dem, right?) Alliance for Progress, which was a call to arm any Latin American country that might fall to communism, which he later expanded to include Asia.

Elwood: what part of "I agree we should stay out of world affairs" is not answering the question? If you were at all familiar with Washington's speeches and letters you would know this was of huge concern of his. I also answered how "our current mideast policy" was formed. Sucks that I can back it up with historical references to Dem Presidents, Huh? And wasn't this question for Republicans to answer?

I feel this is an honest question and need not be attacked by Rad-cons and you know who you are d,

Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy ! By this I mean if you support Bush you support white collar crime.

Presidents have been disregarding that advice since John Adams.

Well we are in a different era now aren't we??
Washing was not living in an era where heavy handed dictators were anthraxing their people for fun, now did he? He had no clue the atrocities that man kind would create. I agree with him if this was still the 1700's but it's not!

P.S.
He was not the only "father" this country has!

I've got to agree with the Professor on this one! Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves. WE WILL TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK, AND RETURN TO OUR GLORY DAYS.
