As I understand your situation, and because you are a minor, you basically have three ways of going about this.
First, you could ask your dad/grandparents for a private loan. The way you're talking, this isn't a good option.
Second, you could ask your dad/grandparents to cosign a note through a bank. Many banks will do this for people with bad or no credit. Basically, cosigning means that if you default -- don't make payments -- the bank can hold the cosigner responsible for the remainder of the loan. So, they might be willing to do this if you're reliable and trustworthy.
The third option, and the one I suggest, is to put the money from your job into a savings account and then buy the ATV cash on the barrell. Actually, if you plan to stay with the bank long-term, this is a very good idea. Not only will you be earning money on your savings in the meantime, many banks - especially smaller banks - give discounted rates to people with account history with them. Really, if you can save 250 (at $6/hr, that's ~40 hrs) a paycheck, you can start looking at adult-size 07 models after 5 checks -- less than 3 months if you get paid every other week.
Just hold your horses for a couple months, live stingy and you'll be rolling on your ATV in no time.

Offer to write up a contract with your dad or grandparents saying how much you will be pay each month, on what date, how you are going to be able to pay, etc. People will tell you that if you are under 18 a contract is not legally binding. It may not be, but these are your relatives. I will show them how serious and responsible you are.

Before doing this check into how much the payments will be each month. Make sure you ask your dad or grandparents about insurance. Ask them how that will work. Can it be put on their or your mom's homeowner's insurance? Whose name will it be in? (probably in the name of whomever it is who signs for you). Ask them all of these questions, offer the contract and they will know you are serious and responsible.

Good luck to you.

P.S. Either make sure you already have a helmet or ask that to be bought along with the ATV.

PLEASE DON"T get an ATV. You are only 16. Here in Arkansas is it illegal for minors to ride ATVs. So many children are killed are suffer severe brain injuries as a result of riding ATVs. You are too young.

ATVs turn over too easily and teenagers take a lot of risks. I know that you think that it won't happen to you but you are a teenager and no teenager thinks that they will die or suffer a bad injury. That's part of being 16.

I don't want you to end up like some of my students. They have brain injuries and many can't walk properly, can't see, and, of course, can't ever live independently.

PLEASE wait.

Prove to your parents that you are responsible by ... making good grades in school ... don't drink or do drugs ... help Mom and Dad around the house ... run errands for your Grandparents ... spend time with them ... let them know where you are going, who you will be with, when you will be home ... save half of the cost of the ATV before you go to them for their support.

You will have them on your side and they will support you!

Prepare a budget so you can show how you're going to pay them back. Write out a promissory note. If they see you're serious about dealing with the finances, they might be more willing to loan you the money.

Your Mom is probally not concerned about the money but instead about your health and safety.
If you approach her with the idea of a safety classes and proper safety equipment. you might have a better chance.
