I am thinking of getting a tatto and my old man says they make women look trashy.

I'm a 52 year old female with 3 tattoos and I'm sure as heck not trashy looking nor do I have too much "spare time" as mmvmartha insinuates (she should probably grow up and quit listening to mom and grandma). Oh yeah - I've never been to jail either.
My tats are easily covered and they all represent a special time or person in my life. I was well over 40 before I got my first one and I plan on getting more before I die.

Your old man is just that...OLD. People from his day and age think differently than most modern people. I have a few tattoos and I did them for me, because I liked them and felt better expressed with them. If you want one, you'll get it regardless of what people say. Also...people here are saying that 'Tramp stamp' is a name given to a tattoo on a women. Well they are confused because that applies to tattoos found on the small of a womans back. Generally these tattoos are ugly and stereotypical designs and ride just above the waist. Think of it as a target for the guys.

I don't think ALL tattoos look trashy, but you can get to a point where you need to stop. One or two small ones, fine. As soon as you cover your whole body and have to start to tattoo your eyelids for room, then yeah, that's sick.

These days many women have tattoos, i think it is really a matter of personal preference. If it really bothers him than get one that is not noticeable by everyone. But by no means does a tattoo make a person trashy if they are trashy it isn't the tattoo that makes them that way, it is the choices and way they carry themselves.Get something that is pretty and feminine flowers, butterflies, something like that. Good luck

It depends on what it is, and where she has it. A dragonfly on her ankle doesn't even come close to comparing to a skull on her bicep. One is trashy, the other is not. I'm sure you can figure out which is which.

Take him with you to a tattoo shop. Let him look at designs with you, see which ones he thinks are feminine and tasteful. Then talk to him about where to put it. Suggest traditional places that are easy to cover up, and less noticeable when you are showing them. Ankles, shoulder blades, front or back of your hip. Stay away from the large pieces, and the spots on your body that stand out.

If you decide that you definitely want one, what you want, and where you want it, talk to him. He may not like it at first, but if you let him know how important this is to you, he'll stop objecting. When you love someone, you can learn to live with things you don't otherwise like.

I'm not a big fan of tattoos, but my husband has 17 to date, and it doesn't make me love him any less. He'll accept it better on you than another woman because he KNOWS that you aren't trashy. The other women of the world aren't his wife, so he doesn't know them well enough to make a judgment on anything besides their looks.

I, personally, am not a big fan of tattoos but, having said that, I think that they look better on a woman than they do on a man - provided they are not too big, too gaudy or too overpowering.

Location has a lot to do with it, too. I believe that tattoos should be placed where they can be easily covered such as the shoulder blade and the small of the back. A lot of people get these "cool" tattoos only to regret them later and have to laser them off.

I don't find excessive tattoos or piercings appealing at all.

I wish you all the best.

I for one am not a big fan of tattoo's. I personally think they make you look trashy regardless if you are a man or a woman. They are often called "Tramp Stamps" on women. But this is one man's opinion and who am I to say if your personal choice of a tattoo is trashy or not and really, its up to the individual to do what they want to do. This is what makes the USA unique in the world.

Depends on what it is a tattoo of. They can be beautiful. They can make a statement they can be trashy. If you get a tattoo of a nekid man on your stomach, yep that is trashy. If you get some scroll work or something on your lower back that's artful.

Yes, women are judged differently regarding tatoos. That's why the tatts on the lower back of women are called "tramp stamps." I wouldn't do it, but then I wouldn't want my man to have tattoos or body piercings either. Just think how ugly they will be as you age and sag.

In this day and age i would hope not...but i'm afraid women are still judged differently. I think if done by a good tatto artist it can be a beautiful way to express yourself. If you don't care what your "old man" thinks and your doing this for yourself...go for it!

Well besides the looking trashy deal, because my grandmother and mom always says tattoos was for people in jail who had nothing to do.. So then it makes me think, Dont you have something else to do with your time and money that you have to tattoo yourself... I do feel those people have too much time on theirs hands for a tatoo. I have thought about it. I am almost 30 yrs old but that is not the kind of person i want to represent. I am still going to school and i rather give the image of a hard worker instead of a bum with too much spare time on her hands..
But in reality who has tooo much time to spare....
Honestly I would judge Both sexes the same!!.
Good luck with what u decide..
