2005 proved to be an eventful year - hurricanes, terrorist attacks or threats?

so why didn't Christmas and New Year's day fall on the same day?

New Years day 2005 doesn't always fall on Christmas day 2005. But Christmas day 2005 did fall on the same day as New Years Day 2006.

I don't understand what Holidays have to do with the other things mentioned.
They are two entirely different Holidays with different meanings.
( You know...the birth of Christ, and the beginning of the new year )
