I have been downloading stuff onto my MP3 player to motivate me at the gym. As I am 53, 70's and 80's stuff was my "golden era" but I can't remember what stuff I used to like.

I really need up-tempo, driving-type stuff so that I keep up a decent pace, on the cross-trainer/stepper for example. I like ballsy, bass-y stuff, and feel-good music. Some examples of what I already have; Eagles, Billy Joel, Springsteen, ELO.

Suggestions?

Try some styx, billy squier, Bryan Adams, Foreigner, Heart, Journey, Pat Benetar, Bad Company. It's a big mix, but some of heart's older stuff is real upbeat music that drives you. All of these were big in the 70's or 80's. Hope this helps.

Dont forget Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Cream, Dave Mason, Charley Daniels. Find some Janis Joplin and other hard driving blues, such as Charley Musselwhite.

Don't forget, it's not always the tempo. A slower, but brassy piece can drive you to better efforts, by PULLING you up by your jock instead of pumping your legs from behind.

Forget the Eagles, Crosby Stills Nash and Young. I love these guys, but for your purposes, these may slow you down.

For some reason, when I thought of workout, 80's, driving, I thought of You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive . Or Rainbow In The Dark by Dio. How about And We Danced by The Hooters? I'm not really an 80's girl, though, I'm mainly a 70's chick. Some cool songs I'd work out to would be Mississipi Queen by Mountain, Funk 49 by James Gang, Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young, Rock N Roll Fantasy by BadCo, Saturday Night Special by Lynyrd Skynard, Shakin' by Eddie Money, Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult, Thunder Island by Jay Ferguson, Hello Hooray by Alice Cooper (not very fast but it's powerful, he's got a bunch of others that could work if that doesn't), Wish I Could Fly Like Superman by The Kinks, Hair of the Dog by Nazareth, Highway Star or Space Truckin by Deep Purple, Ballroom Blitz or something else by Sweet, Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull, Stone In Love by Journey, Keep Yourself Alive by Queen, Crazy Train or Flying High Again by Ozzy. Mrs. America by Styx (or Mr. Roboto if you want to go 80's), Alright Now by Free, Working Man by Rush. Some funk like Superfreak by Rick James or Flashlight by Parliament Funkadelic would work nice, too. If I wasn't so tired right now I'd think of more. I know you mentioned bands like ELO and CSN, they're great but I thought you might want heavier options when working out. Even if you don't like these songs, I hope my suggestions triggered some ideas : )
