Why are oversized white tees so popular?

They seem to be popular in hip hop culture, but I don't know why. Why the color white and not some other color? And why must they be so overly huge?

I asked this question of my husband the other day after we passed one dressed thusly.

The conclusion we came to: Every generation finds fashions that are irritating and shocking to the older generation, and so long as those of us in this age range find it so disgusting, they will stick with it.

I can't begin to imagine what the next big trend will be. I can only hope it is not the fashions of the 70's that I was so fond of back then. Pretty embarrassing to look at those old photos.

And the PANTS! He was tugging at the back of them just to keep them from falling down.

But Law Enforcement absolutely loves this fashion trend, as it has the tendency to shorten foot chases, since the pants fall down and trip them.

I have no idea! And this seems to be most common with men in the hip hop culture. I come from a culture where we like clothes that fit in a variety of colors.

Maybe it goes back to a male's primal urge to appear bigger than he is. White enlarges people, rooms, cars, anything. And an XXL on a skinny kid always makes him look bigger -- and ridiculous.

I do not understand the oversize pants falling off of you look anyway - used to be when things were too big for you, you bought another size.
Sloppy appearance and hats on backwards or sunvisors worn backwards with the bill upside down appear to me as if you do not have sense enough in how to wear your own clothes.

I get that kids think they are showing individuality but reality is that many of these things were worn in time before them - they just added the more current labels to them - no originality there.

Take pride in how you look - for after all, you are representing yourself, your family and yourself to the world!

Yea in my city that's we were given maximum of those suburban youthful toddlers dressing gangsta like they understand what its all about then they bypass domicile to a efficient massive domicile and act all threat free and spend Mommy and daddy's money and act like they made all that money hustling thats how they act in my city Fall River Ma, the reality is all those youthful toddlers imagine the image is cool and they strive against to act all confusing till eventually sometime they get beat down by making use of a real thug

Its "in the Hood thing" and since most guys in the hood have little cash for clothes, A nice new or clean white tee gives the appearence of a new outfit.

also at night you won't get hit by some one in the hoods car or bullet

Some of these answers or comments are so ****** ridiculous. Get a grip, and they wear them because they do look clean, and they are cheap, but they are universal, and go with everything. Sometimes less is more. For the girl- i mean guy who said they know fashion, ****-off.

I always wondered that too. Enormous white baggy t-shirts. So I am not the only one that has noticed. My word, I could make like five t-shirts my size out of just one of theirs. Maybe they wear them long so in case their pants finally do fall down, since they are so baggy and over sized also, that they won't feel like total idiots. Just another theory. Why not just wear clothes the right size?

dem franchise boyz made a song all about how black their skin looks if they wear a white tee. I think that's where it originated, but I'm not sure.
