Let's say you're a liberal Democrat. What if your favorite NFL player came out and publicly said he wishes George W. Bush could run for re-election again?

Or let's say you're a staunch Republican. And one day you see your favorite NFL player on TV praising Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Ted Kennedy!

Would you be able to set aside your political differences and still be able to root for that player? He is your favorite afterall!

It depends how vocal they were about it. If they were just responding to a question and being honest, fine whatever. I might like them a little more if I agree with them, or be mildly disappointed if I don't.
But if they're using their renown as a bully pulpit, a la the Dixie Chicks or most Hollywood actors, then yeah it'd probably be a turnoff.

I'll admit, I find myself curious where most NFL players fall. Most are black, so you'd think they'd be Dems, but most are quite wealthy, so you'd think they'd lean more Republican.
Anyone know of any Web sites that track that kind of thing?

As long as they keep their mouth shut I would have no problem with their political views - As soon as these stars (not only sports but also entertainment) try to talk politics they are shooting themselves on the foot - No one really cares about their views as they most certainly have no clue of what they are talking about
Also, and as 95% of them have below 100 as IQ, their opinion means nothing to the rest of the people

If I root for them because of what they do on the field, why would politics have anything to do with it. I would have my opinions of their political views, but as a player, it wouldn't change how I feel about them as a player.

There's a modern saying... "don't hate tha playa, hate tha game"! This is actually a true analogy! I can appreciate a football player's athletic prowess and dislike him when he opens his mouth spouting politics. Same holds true with actors. I like Tom Cruise but let him open his mouth outside his movie lines and I kringe with disgust!

Well, since NFL players, unlike actors, are not known for trying to shove their political agenda down your throat, I don't see the problem.

I don't play in2 ther political paties; but, what if he believed dfferently than I do. He's an NFL player, not intended to be a hero. He's played to play footbal... not to actually led anything.

I could care less. I believe Tom Brady is a Republican, but he gives me superbowl wins. Plus, he's goodlooking.

Curt Schilling is also a Republican, but he helped us win the World Series.

Who cares? Well, I highly doubt I'll ever have a political debate with Brian Dawkins so I guess it really doesn't matter. One really has nothing to do with another. As long as he does his job, we're cool... no matter what his beliefs are, political or otherwise.

It most definitely would not stop me from admiring his on field ability. Having different views from my own, no matter what the subject, does not make him a better, or worse person, and certainly I would not think less of him- on or off the field.
