I forgot to 'unprotect' them on my camera before downloading..now I cant post them on my website! anyone know what I can do about it, please?

If your camera came with a CD, there is probably a program that you can install and manipulate your pictures (unlocking included).
If you don't have that, maybe you can view the image and create a print screen (a button on your keyboard) and paste it in paint and create an image you can post on your web.
Third option (if you can copy the file) is to copy the file or share the folder so you can use on older OS (like Win98) or Linix to access the file. The lock protection will not apply for reading and you would be able to copy the file and create a new one (unlocked).

The simple sollution (probably this is not the case) but right click on the picture, then click on properties and see if you can change the permitions (unselect read only).

I don't think write protection has anything to do with your not being able to post them online, but if you want to change the protection status on the pics, just right click on the file and uncheck "read-only". Hope this helps.

on each picture go into properties* and see if any thing to change there....
*right click the picture name/file...
