am planning a road trip with 4or5 buddies and am looking for a good location to stay. For example a few bars and some interesting tourist locations. I am planning on going to The Chicago Chophouse for dinner if that helps. Or is there a better steak house now. Thanks for any info

Stay at Wrigley Field. The Cubbies won't be using it soon.

Try here...

http://www.hichicago.org/

It's a hostel right in the middle of downtown. It's cheap, no frills accomodations and probably perfect for five guys traveling around looking for bars or sightseeing. Save your money for been and steaks and not going to some room that you'll probabyl only spend a couple of hours in. As for a steakhouse, Chophouse is pretty good. There's also Smith and Wolensky's, but it's pretty pricey. You could also try one of those new "churrascaria" places that are popping up in the city. It's a new type of restaurant where you pay one price (about $40 or so per person for dinner, about $25 or up for lunch) and have an all-you-can-eat meal. Different waiters bring around different types of meat (Choices include leg of lamb, pork loin, pork ribs, chicken and various cuts of beef, from filet mignon to bottom sirloin). They give you a card. when you flip it to one side it means "bring it on!!" and they carve it up right there. when you flip it on the other side it means "not right now". You can eat as much as you want. You also get some great sides too. The most popular one is Fogo de Chao (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/43227,0,7770247.venue), but there's also Brazzaz (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/71547,0,1080980.venue) and Sal and Carvao(http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/55769,0,2260636.venue_) and a new one in Evanston if you feel like taking a little ride on the el train (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/104952,0,6788380.venue)

The money you save on rooming you can blow here on meat, meat and more meat...

Here's my never fail way to score incredible rooms wherever you're travelling for insanely low prices.
Go to priceline.com
http://www.priceline.com/
Click on hotels
http://www.priceline.com/hotels/default.asp?irefid=HPTRAV1216ICON&irefclickid=HOTEL
Then click on Chicago and name your own Price
http://www.priceline.com/hotels/Lang/en-us/region_star_price.asp?session_key=420011AC5C0011AC20060922220528010d40505754&plf=pcln&start_page=Y&no_init=Y
On the map, find the areas you will accept, and click them all.
Then put in 3 stars for the hotels, and give them a bid of $50 a night. If nothing comes up, up it to $55, then $60 etc until you get something. You will be truly amazed. I have never paid more than $70 and I have stayed in 3 star hotels all over the country. I have converted all my friends and family.
Good luck...and enjoy your fabulous stay in Chicago! You're going to love the Chop House!
