NOPE, you're done, final, finito..... you have no legal claim.. but I'm not giving legal advice. Some things can't be undone, so make sure this is the decision you can live with. You only have 2 more years,,what's two more years, to your child thinking you're a smuck for doing it,, oh, well.. sorry dude, I dont' know your personal matters.. but you put it out there,, so I answered. Good luck!

In the state of Texas, at least, if you relinquish all parental rights to your child, you are no longer legally responsible for them, therefore you do not pay child support. However, that being said, you also have no legal rights to them, that means no visitation, no holidays, NOTHING. Effectively, you cease to exist in their eyes. I would not take the advice from random people on the Internet who have nothing better to do with their time (me included) than to sit here and answer stranger's questions. Consult an attorney and find out the laws in your state.

Why would you want to do such a thing? Especially to a teenager who is going through their own HIGHLY emotional time? You only have 2 years left, nut it up and continue to support your child.

Usually when a person signs over rights, such as letting another person adopt, this allows you to make no further desisions in this childs life and will free you of any financial situations, dealings, or decisions to be made indefinately! (of course laws are different from state to state) Make sure if this is what you decide to do that you are willing to give up complete and total rights to this child! Is this really what you want?

The only way you would not have to continue support is if there is another party (step-parent) that wants to adopt the 16 year old and actually does. But in reality you have two years left. What's the big issue of taking care of someone that you created?

Depends; if you agree to sign away your parental rights and whoever gets the kid agrees that you don't have to pay then you don't. You can't just sign a piece of paper saying you give up your rights and then walk away not without the consent of the other person and a judge ruling on it.

No, you don't because you will no longer have that child. I hope you enjoy the jmoney you save by selling your child. You had better get yourself ready for some real hatred from this child that you are signing your rights to away, I dont know how you sleep at night. Shame on you!!

Yes you do. Unless you have it put in writing that he of she does not want any help from you. Why would you not want to support your child? Why would you want to give up your parental rights to your child? You should rethink this life is so short.
