I think they mean they slept like a baby would with no worries. You are right about the every two hours!!

They may wake often, but the sleep they get is deep. They can be hard to wake when they are really into it! I suspect that is what they mean, you could also relate that to the saying "slept like the dead" , kind of the same thing.

Maybe next time someone says they slept like a baby, you should take it to mean they had the worst night sleep.

My Son never woke up every two hours. That is the case for babies who have colic or are not being fed properly.
Otherwise he slept peacefully and soundly.

"slept like a baby" means that you had a sounded sleep. that you did not wake up scared, because of noises, nothing.

My goddaughter goes to sleep at 9 and she sleeps until 7 the next morning. So I guess it depends on the baby.

Because when they do sleep they sleep soundly, unlike most of us, who toss and turn all night because we're concerned about someone or we have to deal with some ****** the next day at work.

They mean that they slept undisturbed by conscience or worry, because babies don't have any of that.
