It means nice slacks or skirt (no jeans).

Women should wear a nice blouse or sweater. Men should wear a shirt with a collar and the shirttail tucked in (no tee-shirts, etc.)

Wear regular shoes (not sneakers).

It depends on the business. I always err on the side of caution. This does NOT mean jeans and sneakers and a tshirt.

Think khakis (dockers), a tailored blouse and jacket, and loafers. Or a denim or twill skirt, cotton blouse and flats.

If jeans are allowed, dress them up. Wear a nice blouse, blazer, and pumps.... or boots and a long tunic sweater with a belt.

Business casual does NOT mean sloppy, does not mean what you'd wear to a trendy club, and does not mean sexy. It means professional but comfortable.

I worked at a place where the dress code was "business casual"...
They didn't allow jeans or T-shirts (not even nice black jeans!). They allowed athletic shoes. They did not require a tie or jacket (or skirt for women). They required "proper under-attire"... (They musta' had a problem with that one... heard they still do!!)

I usually wore slacks and flats with a nice shirt. Sometimes I'd dress up- skirt, pumps, nice shirt...

For men, khaki pants and a button-down shirt (but not a dressy shirt and tie). For women, pants or a skirt and a sweater with nice accessories. Basically, look nice but do not feel the need to go all-out and wear business suits.

Typically that means khaki's, and polo shirt, sweaters, button up shirts, etc. For a girl dress slacks, skirts, etc. Not a suit or tie.

Usually this means something like dockers style pants, dress shoes with black/dark color socks and a polo or button up shirt. No tie, no jacket. It can also depend on the field you are in.
