Depends on whether or not you are on the antibiotics to treat it. I got a really bad sore throat for a couple of weeks. Since it was just sore, I didn't think about going to the doctor until I couldn't eat or drink anything because it hurt too much to swallow. Once I got the antibiotics, I was eating within three days. And better within a week.

Poor thing! Strep throat is very painful. I've had it several times before when it was so painful, I couldn't even talk. Drink lots of liquids and rest a lot, and it should start to get better in 7 to 10 days. You will feel tired and run-down for a few weeks, but the initial pain of the sore throat should be gone in 7 to 10 days depending on how good your health is. Good luck & get well soon!

I had strep throat 2 times and it lasted about 10 to 12 days. I agree, it's painful! In my opinion the only thing strep throat is good for is losing weight! lol

strep throat last about 7 to 10 days, even when taking antibiotics once the redness and fever goes down you should feel better-are you gargling with 1 glass warm water and 1 tsp salt
drink plenty of water, chicken soup. stay away from sweets- A lab tech. told me years ago that strep germs love sweets. get plenty of rest.

I had it too often to count...and it varied from severe (lasting almost 10 days) to just barely there (better in just a week). I learned after the first few times of having it to notice the symptoms when they began so I would get my mom to get me into the doctor asap. They finally got tired of seeing me every month for the same stuff and sent me to an ENT doctor (ears, nose and throat) and they took my tonsils out. (I was 16--best decision I have ever made). Haven't had it since. My son had the same issue...I asked to have his tonsils removed when he was almost 2. We haven't had an episode since.....
A suggestion for the sore throat in the meantime is Triaminic Sore Throat Formula. Its purple and it works like a dream. Not sure what's in it but it worked better for my kid after surgery than the tylenol with codiene they gave him. Go figure.....

Overall it will last 1-2 weeks, but will vary according to your immune system. The pain will typically last 2-3 days. Try taking some airborne, it will help boost your immune system. Also, take some lozenges to help sooth the pain in your throat.

With antibiodics you should be over it in 5-7 days. After the 3rd day of being on medication it is no longer contagious. I used to get all the time in highschool. It is a pain that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I hope you feel better soon.

Have you seen your doctor? If you haven't get there. My doctor once told me that if left untreated strep throat can become Scarlett Fever which can damage your heart.

Me and my husband got it last year... mine lasted for awhile, like probably about a month. It turned into bronchitos, it sucks. They did give me some good cough pilss that worked really good. It loosened up all that guck... they were called deconex I think?? Anyway, I hope you get to feeling better soon! Take care oh yeah.... you have to finish ALL of your antibiotics even when you start feeling better, cuz I stopped and it lingered and came back full tilt.
