I liked Ghostbusters—although the sequel wasn't nearly as good as the original.
I also grew up during the whole Ghostbusters craze that enveloped the country back when the first movie was released. (That Ray Parker Jr. song was ALL over the freakin' place!)
As for a second sequel, Dan Aykroyd seemed like he was REALLY up for it. The problem was, as rumor had it, that Bill Murray wanted NOTHING to do with it.
In fact, ALL the original cast members, except for perhaps Harold Ramis, weren't really interested in doing another Ghostbusters film. Then, supposedly, Aykroyd came up with the idea of bringing in some new actors to play a new team of Ghostbusters. There was even one rumor where Ben Stiller was going to be one of the new cast members.
Aykroyd had already written the script for Ghostbusters III. Rumor had it that Columbia Pictures—which released the first two Ghostbusters movies—weren't interested because it would have been too expensive to make. (Maybe Slimer was asking for a bigger salary to return for another sequel.) I'm thinking Columbia just wasn't interested in the script and/or idea of bringing in a new cast.
Again, as rumor had it, the storyline would have gone like this: "Stantz (Aykroyd), Spengler (Ramis) and Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) cope with Venkman's (Murray) departure. They recruit a group of young bucks and try to deal with a new wave of spooks, who are being ejected from an overcrowded hell [that] looks exactly like Manhattan. Louis (Rick Moranis), Janine (Annie Potts) and Dana (Sigourney Weaver) all have cameos, while Venkman only appears near the end of the film."
I don't think having a new cast is a bad idea as long as a talented group is brought it that can pull it all off. Plus, with special effects being so good nowadays, a Ghostbusters 3 will definitely be better-looking than the first two movies combined.
Will there ever be a Ghostbusters III? Money talks, so yeah, I think it will be made one day and the trilogy will finally be complete.
It's just a matter of "when" and not "if."

now to break all of your hearts
YES there will be a Ghostbusters 3 (sadely)
"Ghostbusters in hell"
the guys find a portal that takes em to a NYC that is hell
well the story line is bad enough but the cast gets worst.
I dont know who all is still in but i do know this.
Bill Murray took one look at the script and said hell no.
I wouldnt try to make a Ghostbusters withotu murray he was the main star of the first 2.
On top of that while i read the other 3 are still in, they plan to replace him......... with Ben Stiller. My god help us.... can you think of anythign worst then Ben Stiller as a GB?
They waited too long to do this sequel. They have been talking of Part 3 since 1990 doing a hand down to a new generation an now 16 years have passed and they cant even do a scrpt worthy of the whole cast. I dont even know if Weaver or anyone else will return.

I think that was the end of the Ghostbusters at the end of the second movie. People probably don't want to see another Ghostbusters movie. That's my opinion.

I think there will be a new movie in a short time. It will make good money with new special effects and famous actors.

Oh God I hope not. They fell off with the second one. Some movies just don't need sequels.
