I have used both the most frequently misspelled words list and the most commonly used words list. My students are horrible spellers so I gear them toward words they need to know how to spell.

Can you be more specific? Are you at a loss for spelling words? Are you trying to think of a particular activity that goes with some spelling words? Do you need a general concept? What?

you can have them stand at the front of the class and make them spell words they should know and when one gets it wrong you make the one sit down. And the one who gets it right stays up there kind of like a battle... Give them points for how long they stay up.. Thats a good way to review and then give them a test afterward while they are seating you know paper and pen and you say the word...

I use the vocabulary word list from the SAT test. Also inclued the definitions for a matching test
