It was great; you just had to be there. Party poppers going off left and right while the champagne glasses filled and emptied. You guessed it; it was Columbus Day's Eve. When I first walked in, I was a little nervous since I was crashing the party. When my mom was getting me dressed, tying up my bow tie nice and handsome, she half-jokingly looked at me and said, "Wear your boxing gloves in case some fool might wanna fight!" But I'm not too worried. I mean, the people were all talking about this party at group, right up until I got there. That's kind of like inviting me, isn't it? The same principle applies when a girl asks you if you want fries with your hamburger; you just know she loves you when she goes the extra step to make you happy like that. But back to the party. I saw Uncle John with long, tall Sally (my cousin) standing in the corner. Now, what a surprise it was to see them! After all, John and Ninny live 2,000 miles away, and I didn't even know they were visiting this weekend. I didn't get any dirty looks on my way over to see them. No one seemed to notice me. It was really kind of surreal. Like taking so much acid that you forget who's tripping. Down the streets of the city, I remember seeing a scene kind of like this, where I was equally unwelcome, but strangely no one said anything. It was that day when I was skipping around Chinatown in my brand spankin' new Tom McCanns singing "Hey hey, we're the Monkees!" I was hoping to turn some heads but no one thought it was funny.
Finally: the first word. "Hey Stewy-Stew! What are YOU doing here?"

My friend was listening to that song that starts out “Hey Hey We’re the Monkees,” when we saw Uncle John with Long Tall Sally. Sally told us that today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic, but if we went “to wear your boxing gloves in case some fool might wanna fight.” Uncle John said, “she loves you.” Then they got in line with a bunch of people who's tripping down the streets of the city. We kept walking, say no to drugs.
