I think a lot of people, including scientifically minded ones, would answer that you have to be born that way, or at least born with certain capacities that can come to fruition given the right circumstances.
Maybe that has some truth to it.
But these are probably also the same people who say that sociopathy and pedophelia are incurable.
That may also have some truth to it.
My issue with those kinds of attitudes is that they have absolutely no productive value. So some people are born psycho-killers and there's nothing to be done about it? Great. Where does that leave us? In a society full of sociopaths and potential sociopaths where the rest of us start feeling mighty jumpy about our neighbours. Then we can all be diagnosed with paranoia.
I think it is more useful to realize that somehow Kimveer Gil was made into what he became. Yes of course we all have tough experiences in life, and I can tell you that in some of my toughest times there was a certain part of me that was definitely on the verge of simply ceasing to care about myself or anyone else, and angry enough that I certainly wasn't hoping for good things for the people who hurt me.
But every time I have made a choice to stay away from those temptations. And then by the time you reach a certain level of age and development these choices become a set part of your personality. I know it's too late for me. No matter what things happen in my life now I will never be able to simply cease to recognise the humanity of people around me. It is ingrained.
But somewhere along the way Kimveer Gil made some very bad choices about his feelings. And there was no-one and nothing in his life for a long long time to guide him in a better direction. It must have been very lonely, very painful, and absolutely enraging.
Yes, he made those choices, and he is certainly guilty of having become a monster. But he was also manufactured. By his parents and family, the school system, alienated by girls, shaped by tv and gun culture, Montreal, Canada, North American society in general, humanity and it's viciousness. Some blame could certainly be apportioned to any of these things.
If you are really interested in what happened and what can be done then you must accept that you have some role in many of those things. What you can do is try not to let the people around you fall through the cracks, through holes in your own perception or in your own circle of caring. Will that prevent there ever being another Kimveer Gil? Sadly, no. There will most assuredly be more. But if you ever see someone who is hurting and alone and you have something to offer that person, maybe you will save that person's soul, mind, life, whatever, and the lives of victims who get killed simply by being in proximity to such dark energy

Many pathological behaviours can be caused by indoctrination or conditioning. In some cases, there is a genetic or biochemical cause, but not in every case.
- People who "go postal" and kill others reach levels of depression the same as those who commit suicide because of events in their life; they're not necessarily born killers.
- Many people who molest were themselves molested, they weren't born with that disposition.
- Absolute power corrupts absolutely; megalomania, whether in a dictator or a pro athlete, can make someone think they are above the law and cease to consider the ethics of their actions.
- Spree killer who murder several people while evading capture; if they were not suspected of other crimes and facing incarceration or state sponsored murder (aka "death penalty"), would they necessarily have killed anyone while escaping?
Trying to assert a blanket cause is as foolish and a denial or reality as George Bush's idiotic claims of "they hate our freedom".
And for those who ignorantly claim one can't be made into a sociopath, explain the participation of Germans in the Nazi atrocities. (Or do you idiotically believe all Germans are sociopaths?) Explain the willingness of soldiers in war to kill other people. Explain Abu Ghraib. Explain the Stanford Prison Experiment.
The greatest cause for sociopathic behaviour is a lack of any sense of accountability or concern for the well being of other human beings. Read the source below.

The definition of "sociopath" would not seem to greater healthful your question. If somebody will become a CEO, it is often via fact they at the instant are not impulsive, yet quite make very planned judgements. somebody needs to run those super companies that hire huge numbers of individuals around the area. maximum individuals of them do not finally end up like Enron. Following is Wikpedia's definition of sociopath. delinquent character ailment (APD or ASPD) is a psychiatric prognosis that interprets delinquent and impulsive behaviors as indicators of a character ailment. One horrific trauma as a child can do it...one that slices so deep, the person won't ever let anyone in. There are lots of books full of studies on this subject. Some people bounce back from tragedy, others are scarred for life. They usually hide it with great skill - being overly concerned about "appearing normal."
