Kilo = 1000
Hecto = 100
Deka = 10
deci = .1
centi = .01
milli = .001

There are others, mega = 1 million, micro = 1 millionth, nano = 1 billionth, etc., but these are most common.

This is how my math teacher taught us to remember this:
King Henry Drinks Milk During Council Meetings.
If you have meters and you want to convert it to Kilometers, start on the word "Milk" and to get to the work "King" you must move back 3 spaces, therefore you move the decimal 3 spaces back.
Example: 1. meter = .001 kilometers
Or, to convert kilometers to meters, start on "King" and move to "Milk"...therefore move the decimal 3 spaces forward.
Example: 1. kilometer = 1000.

King=Kilo
Henry=Hecto
Drinks=Deca
Milk=Meters
During=Deci
Council=Centi
Meetings=Milli
