I'm about to start a new job where I'll have use of a company car. I don't have all the details from the company yet, but I'm wondering about a few things. If I drive it to and from work, is it considered additional income? What if I need to run a personal errand while I'm driving it for work? Am I entitled to expense my receipts for car washes and other maintenance? What else do I need to know? I don't want to commit a faux-pas right off the bat!

Companies have different policies. Just ask what the company's policy is regarding personal use of the car. With my old company, they even paid for gas for personal use, but I did have to report the gas and personal mileage as income. They won't think you're strange for asking. You may want to ask how often you are expected to get the car washed and have other maintenance performed. Also, ask some of your colleagues what they do. They will be a good source for you to figure out what is normal within the company.
Congrats on your new car! I think it's a great benefit!

Generally speaking the car if for company business only. You may be given a card to purchase gas and other things. Or you may be required to pay for it first and then be reimbursed for acceptable purchases. The best thing to do is make sure you are clear on the company's policy regarding the car when you are given it. Don't just take it and then get zapped later for somethign you thought was OK.
