The daughter is not his biological daughter but calls him Dad because he has been in her life, well, live in the same house, for 10 of the 16 yrs. she has been on this earth. She got her first official job 5 months ago but before that made her own money from time to time doing braids (from $10 to $60). He has never bought her much, and certaintly doesn't now since she works. But now he borrows from her and she had a hard time getting her money back-sometimes she doesn't get it back at all! When I tell him that #1 he shouldn't borrow from her just so he can have a blunt, and that he should be giving her not taking from her, he tells me that she is suppose to give him if he ask if he doesn't have! I tell him he has it backwards - she is not suppose to, he is suppose to - he's dad- and she is still a minor in school! I ask him doesn't he feel guilty for not giving her her money back when she is broke and he has money in is pocket? What do you think of this man/dad with this attitude?

it sounds like alot of dads out there he is in his world he is just trying to make all the pain in his life go away and when you do that you don't have any room in your heart for anyone else he should feel bad but he doesn't want to put someone before himself because he feels that he has been picked on by life and he should get the first in everything tell your daughter to hold on to her money and keep working hard she will make better live for herself but only if she keeps going at it. ive had the same life well I'm sure its not the same but similar and i have made a great life for myself im going to college and i have a high up cooperate job so if i can do it so can she
good luck

the father should not be doing this period, i saw your other comment and back tracked to this question, the young lady certainly seems to have her head screwed on and has a STRONG sense of family period...this is what he is taking advantage of...........maybe [if you are the mum in the house] you could hold her extra money for her, after she has got what is needed or she wants OR if you are the child that is having the money borrowed from her, how about you drop your whole paycheck into a bank WHAT EVER you do, do NOT let him co sign or have access to this account.....................He is a sad reflection of how society is going these days and its sad that she is being made to feel pressured into giving up what he is more than able to earn him self.
Best advice is NOT have cash in her pocket [just her cash card] and when he asks for another gift...........which it is............a loan is where you GIVE IT BACK........ she can be honest and tell him she does not have any money on her..............

If the daughter is willing to loan her dad the money then I think it is okay. I do however think it is strange that the dad would be asking. Maybe she should think of herself as a bank and charge interest. That way she will be making money on the money she loans out and it would maybe make her dad think twice about borrowing money from his child.

Look, I think it is OK to borrow money from anyone you are close to as long as the person is dependable enough to pay it back in terms that are agreed upon. Anyone that lends money, then doesn't get paid back shouldn't lend again. Make sense?

technically by law, a minor that is working and not emancipated, if the parents tell her to she has to give up her pay check to them. BUT this would only be to YOU and not him whatsoever because he is not her true father...and has not adopted her.
so therefore he is setting a horrid example for her to look for in men. its a fact that girls base how their father figures are to what they look for in men, hopefully she will see his faults and steer clear of men like him.....and a father who gets her money for drugs, thats just sad....

Look I think he shouldnt be barowing the money unless its a need and if you have expressed that it bugs you and he doesnt care. He is selfish tell him again how you feel and if he does it again hes just not ready for any relationship unless its with himself.
