In every political debate in this country when republicans are faced with well-thought out and articulated differences of opinion their only response is to attack the person of the opposing opinion. Its very sad.

Have you ever heard Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh? They never offer contrary opinions or solutions only personal attacks and degradations. This seems to have become the standard conservative tactic in all political debate.

Let the attacks commence!

I don't think all Republicans work in this way. Some of my Republican friends are critical thinkers and actually use their brains. One of them actually occasionally beats me at Scrabble! ;). Saying that all Republicans are like this is an unfortunate generalization, but one that begs the question: why are there so many personal attacks these days?

The personal attacks are of course an unfortunate circumstance. We can look for a source that this emanates from.

Sadly, many Americans are programmed by the TV, not the other way around. Like cursing in front of a child teaches the child that it's OK to curse, the actions of our celebrities tell us it's okay to interrupt, name call, etc.... This brings down the quality and intelligence of conversation en masse.

in effect our celebrities are telling us to ignore or completely devalue conflicting opinions. Watch how Bill O'Reilly treats his guests, and you'll see what I mean.

The smallest minds have the biggest mouths.

One could ask "Why are liberals so blind to the attack dogs on their own side?"

Look around yahoo answers. This isn't a republican issue. It's a political issue. Both side do it far too often.

You remember that Al Franken wrote a book "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat stupid idiot". Wouldn't that be a personal attack to someone with a different opinion? Have you listened to any of Howard Deans speeches. Just listen to Air America for one day.

Because when you really can't defend your actions, the next best thing is to attack someone personally and hope that the American people don't realize what the question was and starts to look at the others integrity. In other words, republicans sling mud to get off the subject.

Because facts and reason are not on their side. The strategy has to be to attack the messenger. Otherwise, they'd be dumbstruck, and would have no response to the truthful, logical arguments of Dems and Independents.

I've posted similar questions to this and then gotten personally attacked. I haven't read the other answers here yet, but I'll bet people some attack you for asking this question.

FOX is the only community which leans good, on a similar time as all different lean left a sprint or lots. I extremely have stumbled on no station that's independent. on a similar time as FOX leans conservative, the do take care to be honest and grant Democrats a voice. in all probability the main left-leaning community is MSNBC.

I can believe that you would cite Rush for this, but Ann Coulter? Come on!

And Eve just disproved your point right there!

P.S. Half of the people attacking on here are your libby friends.

Repubs do do this ALOT.

A dem will do it mostly when the question is an "attack" question like Shirazz.. (sp?) does most of the time.

A repub will do it ALL THE TIME, no matter what the question is, it could be about the economy and the Repub will answer a little and then end the answer with personal insults.

Typically it's because the tripe that passes for "Liberal Opinion" is based on slander, libel, lack of an educated opinion, and usually just hating someone becuase they voted for someone else. Lieberman was pretty brutally attacked - by his own party no less.

Maybe if liberals were smart enough to formulate an opinion without any of the above listed holier than thou attacks, they'd get an intelligent response in return. . .

If you don't know what you're talking about, you really have no choice but to attack the person. It is a sign of low intelligence and ill manners. But it sells!

Yes if Rush and Ann could only control their vitriol, like the former Air America pundits did.
