Absolutely. It is true that a lot of successful people today are dropouts, but look at the statistics and find out how many unsuccessful people are there that are dropouts. That number will definitely eclipse the Forbes list.
Plus, Bill Gates did dropout from Harvard, which means he was smart enough to be admitted to that top school, but decided to pursue his business full time.
Stay in school!

PS: successful in life can vary, but I assume you meant monetarily.

Are you sure that it is 7 out of 10?

According to Forbes, 6 of the 10 richest people in the world graduated college.

Did you mean top 10 Americans? Then yes, 3 of the top 10 graduated college, but 2 more inherited all of their money.

So yes, I think education is very important, especially if you are concerned with getting filthy rich.

Gates - Dropped out
Buffett - Graduated Nebraska / Columbia
Helu - Graduated National Autonomous University of Mexico
Kamprad - No college
Mittal - Graduated St Xavier's College
Allen - Dropped out
Arnault - Graduated Ecole Polytechnique de Paris
Alsaud - Graduated Menlo College / Syracuse
Thomson - Graduated Upper Canada College / Cambridge
Ka-shing - High School dropout

First of all, remember that those guys are all old...and back in the day education had less of an emphasis, at least past 10th grade or so. And you didn't need a fancy degree to get a job.

These days, it is much harder to find a job without that piece of paper. The exception is if you are talented enough to become your own boss.

You will NEVER make that list working for someone else. You have to break off and do your own thing if your aspirations lie in that direction, which means you have to be VERY market savvy, smart, and in many cases, lucky as well.

Albert Einstein was a high school dropout, but he educated himself... Education is definitely important whether you're going to school for it or just learning on your own by reading and experiencing (I suggest both). I know someone who dropped out from high school and is now a stock broker working on wall street because he read and talked about stocks, and independently traded daily until he became educated enough to work for big companies. It does though, unequivocally depend on your work ethic and passion. You should only educate yourself on things that you're interested and passionate about.

their saying is:

Those that know HOW work for those that know WHY

If you have the goal and guts to leave the security of knowing how much will go into your account next pay check, follow your dream

But these guys also went through days or months of "food, shelter, clothing ... choose 2 out of three, cuz we have to do without something this week"

Yes, but look at what they made and did.

Dropping out WILL NOT work for everyone. Plus, their brains are wired differently than ours.
