It's a fantastic city very, very safe, criminals actually get punished very severely for their nefarious activities. The place is very clean and there are strict regulations(enforced) re the handling and cooking of food. There are loads of places to go and things to see.

Great place, great people, BUT not a lot to do.
Most Brits go, to be able to say, that they had a Singapore Sling in Shepherd's Hotel!!!

Actually, it's more to do with the fact that it's a city, rather than anything else. I used to be a travel agent specialising in the Far East, and in my experience the cities - Singapore, KL, Bangkok etc - are considered stopovers rather than final destinations. Most tourists go to the Far East for the beach, and with only limited holiday time, Singapore is not somewhere they want to spend their precious holiday days. A bit of a shame, if you ask me, because I've really enjoyed my frequent visits to the city.

They raised the prices on the Singapore Slings in the Long Bar at Raffles. ;-)

But seriously... Singapore's "modernization" campaign has succeeded in completely eliminating it's cultural charm (except for the Orchid Gardens, still my favorite). Hint: tourists from Britain and the USA do not WANT to see a highly concentrated version of the worst of their own materialistic culture reflected back at them on Orchard Road. We want to see Singapore's own people, culture, history... presented in truthful, realistic ways, and are willing to accept a little bit of dirt and normal crime levels to go with it. The overly controlled, sanitized, edited, westernized Singapore that is now presented to visitors is... well... a fake, plastic, turnoff. Example: Singapore's Chinatown... it has been converted from something real and culturally/historically interesting into a completely phony sanitized concrete Disneyland. No appeal left. Sorry.
