Um, I think it's because we kinda bombed the sh*t out of them for a while, destroyed a lot of their infrastructure, set their economy back 30 years and, oh yeah, we did all that without their consent or support.

I think we kinda owe it to them. Plus, we're getting a ton of oil from there.

Hey!. You need to study economics and politics and stop watching Fox news for a while.
The Iraquis are paying not only for Education, Healthcare ,social services and military training since the US is in control of the oil pipes, and since the cost of the Irak war was transfer to the External debt of Irak.
The government is paying to the US contractors with money from US taxpayers, but Irak has a collateral that has been taken by the US since the new puppet government was created.

Iraq already was a Socialist State under Saddam. The Baathist movement was copied from the Nazis in the 30`s. The Baathist put Saddam in power and he then added the Stalinist Russia style secret police and a socialist system.
We are doing it in order to establish a Democracy that can stand on its own where people will have hope instead of despair. An Iraq that is peaceful, united, stable, democratic, and secure, where Iraqis have the institutions and resources they need to govern themselves justly and provide security for their own country.
An Iraq that is a partner in the global war on terror and integrated into the international freedom loving communities and an example for others.
Our economy is just ducky and can afford this expense. It is an investment in our future and has freed 56 million people half of them women.

Isn't that crazy? I have often wondered that myself.
we go to war with someone, and then we turn around and rebuild better than it was originally. why do it in the first place?

Don't get me wrong, I am all for helping people in need, but charity should begins at home, and as long as we have the working poor, children growing up in abandoned houses, being left alone, people sleeping on the streets, the elderly eating dog food and not taking their meds. all because they cant afford to live a decent life, US money should stay in the US instead of making another country self sufficient.

Its crazy I tell you, just plain crazy.

Well, it is the least we can do, since we went into their country and turned it upside down. . .

Makes you want to take back that vote back in 2000, doesn't it? This war is costing us more than even Bush thought it would. He is a useless tool.

If the U.S. wants Iraq to succeed, it cannot leave it in the stone age that it was in. you may not like where the money is going but either we do it right, or just don't do it at all.
