This was the first meridian of the new Louisiana purchase and covered about 2,000,000 acres. Eventually it would cover all or most of the six states. There was much discussion as to where the base line would be with the primary spot being an extension of the third PM base line. Ultimately it was decided to use the confluence of the St. Francis river and the Mississippi river for the base line and the confluence of the Arkansas and the Mississippi for the meridian . Dude this is basically the surveying of Louisiana during the Louisiana purchase , you have a base line and a meridian line . Survey crews use base lines and meridian lines in mapping of land and lots .
