Should I be very scrupulous while tuning a piano?

yes, your reputation depends upon it.
just one bad refference and you'll have to find something else to do to make a living.

If you do it wrong the frame of the piano can snap like a bear trap and send pieces flying everywhere, probably killing you and whoever is close enough to the shrapnel that was the piano in the process. Do it right or risk death. I'd go with "scrupulous" if you don't want to destroy the piano and possibly get killed in the process.
