Sounds like someone is stereotyping gamers. I consider myself a gamer and it's true I don't play sports (I just don't want to), I do have plenty of friends and I did great in school.

I'm addicted to video games and have been for years. I graduated high school with a 3.4 gpa, did marching band every year, had more friends than I knew what to do with, and was in great shape, but still loved my video games. Now I don't have so much time for it. But you have to be careful about making generalizations.
But the problem starts with parents not regulating their children when they are younger with the games. Even TV needs to be regulated and can stunt growth (mentally) in children. It's the younger generations that are having the problems. Really all that can be done is to have the parents keep control over game usage. Make sure that there is an even balance between reality and fantasy. Or else these kids might just turn into that D&D/Star Wars loving geek who plays video games in his moms basement at 28 in his underwear because he has no social life. Those people do exist and I worry for them. I'm a geek, I like Star Wars, I play D&D but yeah....there is a point that shouldn't be crossed!!!

Get the kids involved in some kind of structured activity, whether it be swimming, tae kwon do or even an after school study project. Taking away TV and/or video game privileges also will certainly help.

well i dunno if im addicted to it, but i consider video games one of my hobbies. i like it cause i like challenges that i like to overcome. either going competition with another player or just have the fascination of going through a story board of a game, kinda like watching a movie. i play every now and then, cause i have my responsibilites to attend. i would consider video games , an escape from reality.
now there is the problem where video games takes up alot of ur time. i have 2 lil cousins thats constantly on the video games, i have to convince them to do outside activities, like actually joining a outdoor sport .

they need to find a new hobby that will give them lots of exercise.
like masturbation, although that in it's self can become quite addicting aswell.
